Judging New Albums
How to Judge?

How do you judge a album?
What I mean is most new albums bands always try to add something new or almost reinvent themselves so you have different sound. I don't mind them doing this, but if it isn't broke don't try to fix the main tone of your music, my opinion. I mean I look at a band like Blink-182 and think how they changed from a pop punk fun band, to very serious emo band...
Anyway lately I need to listen to the album a few times before I actually judge it. Like just got this Sleep with Sirens new cd and first time I listened I though it was way to soft. Now I listened a few more times I am really loving the flow, still softer than previous albums but still good. I feel more time just listening to each song hear the flow, the lyrics, and rhythm gives you a better impression to judge.

I listen to it a few times and form my own opinion.
Generally I only pay attention to the production/instruments on my first listen and then after subsequent listens I try to listen to the lyrics/meaning.
And I always appreciate when artists try to change for the better even if it was solid from the beginning. Case in point: Supercell's change from Today Is a Beautiful Day to Zigaexperimentia.
Death Grips is a band that slowly started to grow on me. It probably took me a week until I really got pumped up by them. Now I see them as one of my favorite hip hop artists and I'm always eager to listen to their latest album.
Right now I'm listening to Kendrick's To Pimp a Butterfly and some of the tracks/parts that I wasn't much of a fan from the beginning is starting to grow on me.

I listen to Pennywise. Every album is awesome. They've only really tweaked thier sound a bit but have remained true to themselves and their fans. Blink 182 sounds like they are going back to their old sound now since Tom Delonge is most likely going to be replaced by Matt Skiba.
