I'll say this over and over again, I can't wait for Return to Ravnica to come out! With this, I can see a lot of potential for my other decks as well as building more from these.
Also can't wait until Boros come back, I need more Lightning Helix. (Deals 3 dmg to target creature or player, you gain 3 life for 1 red and 1 white mana.) *Laugh* That and hopefully they'll bring back Kos, Wojeck Veteran, and Razia, Boros Archangel.

Since I play goblin legacy, this card speeds up my game by a huge margin. I don;t play tournament, but I pretty much got all the standard card in a goblin legacy deck except the lands. Those dual lands are freaking expensive
You shouldn't need duels for gobbos, unless your splashing, in which case you need one or two.

Saw the spoilers over the weekend while my family and I were on vacation. Was so ecstatic to see the shocklands!
And one thing's for damn sure, I'm goin' Azorius now. Detain had the strongest first impression on me so far.
And, oh come on, Teknox, mill is fun, and in my mill deck, Jace does some heavy lifting.
In any case, nice to see Jace yet again. Think I might replace my Beleren with Architect of Thought in my EDH deck.

ya mono blue mill used to be all that i run but its way to slow to win games with it and when you do use mill it requires you to have like half your deck just for defense so you dont get killed be fore like turn 10 or so which is like the soonest you'll kill them ever :I

It's still fun, and not many strategies prepare for it. And with the new Jace's Phantasm, you could go on the offensive if you really need to as a backup strategy.

This is f***ed up :

A Planeswalker that discourages attacking it as well as it's ultimate? So good!
They've also changed up Niv-Izzet's ability to where when you deal damage to the opponent you draw a card instead of every time you draw a card, the opponent loses 1 life and you could tap him for 1 card draw.

Also liking Selesnya's new Populate effect now, especially with this card :

Yeah, new planeswalker sounds very painful to play against. 5 starting loyalty, too, so she's gonna need to be answered pretty quickly.
And Niv's ability is backwards from its original. Honestly though, I kinda liked his older version better, but this is fine.
One of my friends is loving populate since he has a bunch of token decks.

In the story of Ravnica, they're the government, basically. Makes all the laws. And their cards reflect that, having ways to lock down creatures and control spells and such.

My friend and I split the cost of the Izzet vs. Golgari duel decks, and so we each have one of the decks. I was playing Izzet and he was Golgari. Long story short, he destroyed me. Izzet's trying to do fun and crazy stuff, but Golgari's is just pressure upon pressure.
That being said, we only played one game before we started drafting for FNM. So not a large sample size, but, still.
And preordered my box for RtR. Had to sell my stack of reject rares to pony up enough money to pay for it entirely since I was short about 20 bucks. At least I'm getting it for only 100 instead of 120 that it was about to jump to.

Hi, is this a place where a total noob can ask for suggestions concerning MTG?
If not, sorry for the bother.

I don't mind. I made this thread just for anyone to come talk about anything MTG, nothing really specific.

AH, alright.
I just started to play MTG, well, actually I haven't even been at a single match. Most of my friends asked me to play so I will.
I only have two intro decks, the 2013 blue and red one, 4 Chandra Nalaar and Fireblaze and a couple of what my friends call really good instant and sorcery, a few mint mythic rares. I want to focus building a red deck.
Then I saw Fat packs, deck builder toolkit and booster packs. I just can't decide what to buy.
My first question, what do you guys think should I buy? Fat pack, deck builder toolkit or just booster packs of the equivalent value.

A comparison I like making is that buying boosters is like buying water bottles. The bigger of a quantity of it you buy, the cheaper it is per unit. A single booster pack is about 3.50-4 bucks, while a box set is around 90 to 100, perhaps more if the set was good, but the most recent ones ended up this way. But you get 36 boosters from it, so each booster costs less than buying the boosters individually.
Same logic applies to fat packs, since its 9 boosters + some extra goodies, though fat packs raise in price... (Innistrad Fat Packs are 80 bucks on Amazon last I checked for whatever reason).
Deck builder's toolkits I kinda consider as cheaper fat packs, even though they aren't really... but this is what you should be going for when first starting out I think, since it gives you a good, simple selection of stuff to work with to start, and three boosters. At least, it's how I started.
EDIT: Older sets kinda break that average I put up though, Was amused but not surprised to see, Future Sight and Worldwake stuff be backwards from what I said, individuals being cheaper than boxes and whatnot. But that's kinda expected since those ones had really valuable rare cards.

I asked one of my friend again today and she said that I would be better off if I just use a single color deck or starter deck until I learn and find my preferred game play which I enjoy.
Then I should just buy singles so I could get my desired cards faster than getting a lot of cards that I don't like.
The main problem is that I still don't have a preferred game play or style.

It all depends. I'd say play with a color(s) that you are interested in, and then you could start from there. This way you can get a feel on what colors feel like what play-style, and then start choosing what color fits your own play-style.
From what you said, you like Red so far, and for the most part, Red is a very fast-paced color. You'll deal the most damage out of a lot of spells that do direct damage and a have a lot of creature cards that vary from very cheap and fast to play, like goblins, to high cost but very powerful creatures, like dragons.
One of the down-sides to Red though it the fact that it has a low defense against other colors. To me, Red is a color that you want to use for a play-style of you trying to outplay your opponent before they start out-playing you, because, you get to late game, and the opponent still up, they'll have an advantage over you, since the other colors have a better late-game than Red.
If you do feel like playing other colors though, here's a very quick description about what they are all about.
Blue - Control. Blue likes to control the field either by countering cards that you play or by making you discard cards from your deck.
White - Defense. Has a lot of cards that make you gain life, has a decent amount of abilities to help you defend. Creatures vary from having a lot of them, to having a single, powerful creature.
Green - Big Creatures. Has a lot of big creatures that deal massive amount of damage, but very cost-heavy creatures. Has a lot of spells though to help you gain a lot of land to help you play your big creatures.
Black - High risk, high reward. Has a lot of cards that can destroy just about anything and everything, as well a lot of creature cards that can give you a lot of rewards, but only if you can win the risk of using them.

Sometimes it comes down to your personality, too. Blue is somewhat difficult for beginners because most builds make them a reactive playstyle, it requires you to do a lot of thinking to decide how you want to control, since your resources are limited, you can only stop so many spells with your mana. But if your a calculating player, you may be able to handle it even as a newcomer.
My first deck was a white control / skies (fliers) deck, and me being a defensive player, I had plenty of spells that locked down the opponents creatures while I whittled down my opponent a couple points at a time. I just didn't like taking damage, so I made sure to stop threats before they could ever become threatening.
One of my friends likes attacking with reckless abandon, so, even as a new player, can play a solid red-white aggro deck since he can go all out and finish off opponents before their decks really ever get off the ground. It had ways to bring out lots of small guys to attack at once with some spells that deal direct damage if he couldn't get through.
