[quote="kickiluxxx"]They're waste of rares when they're that weak, though. Scry 1 simply isn't enough... In fact, we had cards like that in earlier sets that were COMMON. Granted, they were only mono-colored lands, but as a dual land, that's too weak to warrant an "ETB tapped always" penalty.
Scry 2, my friends and I think, would've been more of a reason to make it rare. But, at best, those bad dual lands really oughta be uncommon.
It wouldn't make much sense as they had snow duels in cold snap that did virtually the same thing, but were snow and didn't scry.
That and it likely had a lot to do with limited, in RTR limited you had a lot of multicolor cards and they wanted people to be able to play all the guilds, so they put the gates at common so there would be plenty of mana fixing, it's likely not the same in theros.
I think they are fine, in slower, more controlling decks, it allows them to filter out excess lands for gas, powers domri in R/G decks and isn't horrible late game to draw.
The snow duals were rare? Ouch.
I still would be disappointed to open those lands as my rare. It could be better. But, I can somewhat see the argument for limited.
EDIT: Man, now I'm REALLY torn. That new Fact or Fiction is tempting me to play RUG, even though, with devotion, that'll probably be bad. I seriously can't decide the direction I want to go.
Black seems awesome, I like green, I wanna play blue, and red has some interesting goodies.

The more and more I think about the Theros block, the more I have come to dislike it for Standard.
I just don't like the thought of going mono-colored, and this block feels like it's forcing you to go mono-colored, even though we just had a very good block of multi-colored themes from the RtR block.
Of course, 2 colors will also be a thing, but I do feel like it's not going to be as strong as for example, mono-black, which has options to a lot of good removal spells like Thoughtseize, Devour Flesh, Doom Blade, Ultimate Price, and Hero's Downfall. I do want to go UW control, but at the same time, I don't see a lot that helps support it through Theros.
BU control seems a bit more stable, especially within the Standard Format, but at the same time, I won't have access to Sphinx's Revelation, Supreme Verdict, and Detention Sphere, in which I believe these cards are going to be crucial to play control with. Esper is a possibility, but without the Buddy Dual-Lands, it's much more susceptible to not having the color(s) that you need.
All in all, I just don't like the direction that Standard is going to right now. Theros and M14 doesn't have enough support to help the RtR block in my opinion, unlike where in the previous blocks, Inndistrad could support out Scars, and M13 helped support out RtR.

Yeah, the complete anti-synergy between these two blocks makes it very awkward to try to make something out of both blocks.
One block, Ravnica, promoted multicolor. You're encouraged to play two, three, maybe even four color. All the multicolored cards support it.
Meanwhile, Theros, not only rewards monocolor, punishes players for going multicolor, since Devotion forces, well, devotion to a color. Straying from it, even just by a little bit by going two-color or something, may prevent you from having the pretty amazing effects of some cards, simply because you need to commit.
It's why I completely can't decide on a new deck once Innistrad rotates. There's a bunch of cards I like in every color (except white, not as much from white excites me), but since I'm forced to pick a maximum of two, I can't decide. The best decks I can think of are at least three-color. Anything I think of that's only two-color feels like it's missing something important.

I started playing about a year or two ago and realised after spending a fortune in cards that it really isn't for me, so I'm getting rid of all my rares and mythics ($$$$!!)
I'll still keep around to look at the art of the game though.

Do you have any links to where you are selling any of your rares or mythics? Looking for a few, and I might just want to take some off of your hands.
On the topic of Theros, one of the cards that I am looking forward into is Swan Song. So powerful for a counter-spell in both Standard and Modern format. I think it can see some Legacy play as well instead of Spell Pierce.
I can see me using Swan Song in place of my Dispels from Modern, especially against cards like Thoughtsieze and Inquisition. I can also see it in a lot of Standard play, maybe 2-of main-board, and 1 or 2 side, due to the now heavy enchantments Standard.

Not sure about Modern, actually. Perhaps against the Ad Nauseam or Scapeshift combo decks. I'd rather it be in the sideboard, since I'd rather not just give my opponent a 2/2. But that's just me; it still seems like it's perfectly servicable in the maindeck.
In Standard, it'd probably be fine, since it also hits a bunch of creatures, too, like the Gods. I'd rather those guys only be on my side of the board. My opponent can have a bird, instead.
Legacy, it's one card that stops both Sneak Attack and Show and Tell, which is pretty awesome. I don't know enough otherwise if it's good enough for other decks, but it seems like a powerful sideboard plan for those particular cards, if nothing else.

To be honest, with Twin Combo in modern, especially against Jund, I'd rather my opponent have a 2/2 bird token over them Thoughtseize/Kozileck/Duress My combo that I have in hand, nor getting Path to Exile.

In that case, yeah, a 2/2 bird doesn't mean much if it means being able to resolve your combo or keeping your combo cards safe in your hand.
Still, I'd be worried about running too many. If that bird is allowed to attack, two damage a turn adds up fairly quickly. Two sounds like the right number.
EDIT: Today's prerelease kinda sucked for me. Pretty underwhelming pool, followed by two losses, a draws, and a lucky win (not in that order). I don't care much for my rares (though one or two seem sweet, but I don't plan on using them), and I literally did not get anything I needed for constructed, even out of my commons and uncommons.

I went to a pre-release and went 5-0-1 before splitting top 4. Huzzah!
How the hell do I make a deck out of my old INN/RTR deck to a THR/RTR? RIP Champion of the Parish

I think White-Red aggro may still be a thing. Helio's Spear and Legion's Initiative. Got two anthems in those colors.
EDIT: Man, I draft some pretty dirty decks in my friend's Cube. Last time, I had a bunch of planeswalkers and two Armageddons (one of the actual, and a Ravages of War), and kinda just crushed my friends decks.
This time, I had the Pestermite/Deceiver Exarch + Splinter Twin combo, AND the Land Tax + Scroll Rack combo. Plenty of card draw and defensive spells to round out my deck, so it was very consistent. My friends seem to have hated it, though they blamed the friend who owns the cube rather than me, which was funny.

Looks like Aggro is topping tournaments as of right now. Pretty sure the meta will change back to Mid-Range though once the boom of Aggro decks go down and control sneaks back up like usual.

As good as some people thought aggro was gonna be, it seems to have no place at the shops I go to. They seem to not stand a chance.
On that note, I'm still working on my Standard deck. I've settled on Izzet control. I wish I could be Grixis, but it makes my mana base too inconsistent. When it works, it works better than just Izzet, but I get mana problems too often for my liking.

Guess I'm going back to UWR ControlMan, I need to invest in White shocklands. I'd like to be playing a Sphinx's Revelation deck of some sort. Like something similar to yours, for instance.
No thought to add a few more copies of Anger of the Gods? It wrecks the devotion decks I've seen (they spread very wide, but go all in to do so). Plus, it deals with Voice of Resurgance cleanly. That card annoys me, especially since there's a bunch around where I play, so I always want something to deal with it without needing to deal with the token afterward.

I started playing back around Portal (the set that a lot of people seem to hate). My mom and uncle have been playing since Beta, so they got me into it.
I have never played competitively and probably never will. I like playing against my friends. Win or lose, I enjoy playing with them (and I can do an awful lot of both depending on who I play with.)
I like playing a lot of green because I love big creatures, but it leads me to get my butt kicked a lot when my decks don't play fast enough. As a result, I'm trying some new decks out including a red-white dragon deck with some Stuffy Dolls and Shivan Meteors and a Black-White weany deck based around Howling Mine and Underworld Dreams. I got really into two color decks during Ravnica and have never weaned off them since.
I'm mostly a type I person. I played type II for a while, but it's just too expensive to maintain.

So... How about that Mono-Blue aggro winning Theros GP? Love how Thassa went from only $15 to $30 a pop now. Glad I bought my play-set before that jump...

Glad I bought my play-set before that jump...Is it just me who thinks that deck isn't as strong as people are making it out to be? Supreme Verdict kinda just wrecks it, since they need to play out so much to fuel devotion, just to see it all get wiped away, with no good way to refuel to come back.
At least, that's what I'm seeing, as I test a Trading Post deck with four Verdicts I'm trying out against it. Even my Izzet deck can hold it's own against it, though Master of Waves is annoying, damned Pro-Red. Regardless, my four copies of Anger of the Gods kills basically everything but the Master, rendering him just a 4-mana 2/1.
Granted, if it curves out, you could just die on turn 5. But, that's true of many aggro decks. Sometimes, they get amazing draws. Otherwise, any control deck can stabilize fully against it if they wipe out the initial assault.
On another note:
I did want to play with Master of Waves. I hope it didn't jump up too dramatically. I still want to use it sometime in the future.

Master of Waves went from a median of $6 to a median of $20 according to TCGplayer.com. Pretty sure that StarCity is selling them for more too.

Fuck.
Well, maybe it'll die down with time, like Reckoner. Reckoner got expensive because of it's popularity at the Pro Tour (I think it reached $35), but reverted back to it's starting price by the next set I believe.
EDIT: Green Devotion, like Makihito Mihara's top 8 deck at PT Theros, is pretty insane. So many permanents if it goes off, which can be on turn four quite often. So much mana to make so many fatties at once. I love it. I remember thinking that this was the deck that'd end up winning it all, but unfortunately not.
This devotion deck actually gives the control decks I've been trying trouble, too. Too much to deal with sometimes. It mulligans fairly poorly, though, so I have a better shot when it has to start with fewer cards.
