You can say he was the greatest hitter of his era and it is sad to hear his passing today at the age of 54. If you are not a baseball fan you most likely never heard of him, but for those of us who have seen him play he was just amazing.
There are so many other accomplishments you can list for him. He was a great player for baseball and also a great person in baseball.

Tony Gwynn was the greatest pure hitter I've ever seen. Some of the numbers he put up are unbelievable. He was the closest player in the modern era to get close to hitting .400, and he had only one 3 strike out game in 20 YEARS!!! I was listening on the radio to some of his stats. The guy said that Gwynn hit over .400 against Madux and Smoltz in their primes! Unbelievable! Not only that, he was a great man on and off the field. Very humble and very giving. It was an honor to see him play. He will be missed.
