I've heard say that it's the "DragonBall Z" of Gundam. Now, I don't know about that... but if it means totally effing kickass then I agree.

probably Voltes V lol. my first mecha anime I'd watched followed by Gundam Wing and Full metal panic...

I think mine was either Voltron or Voltes V. I can't remember which was first since I started watching since I was 4.

I would have said a little bit of Escaflowne then Gundam Wing, but thinking about it...I think I caught bubblegum crisis, Appleseed, GitS, Patlabour on Sci-Fi before that. Some of those are a bit more 'mecha fringe'(?), but still.
