What do you think of having Nerve Gear in real life?

I had not heard of the Nerve Gear, but it's pretty interesting. However, it looks like the Virtual Boy, Oculus Rift, Oculus VR.

if they make it FAIL proof then i would love to have one (emergency logout | some other vital functions).
it also depents on what kind of games you can play.

Do want, only if one thing:
open source from beginning to end. Hardware, software, specs, research, everything. As in 100% open.
I don't want shitfuck software which I don't control to melt mah brain. Lessons learned.
And I'll only blame myself if something goes wrong.

I certainly wouldn't want it to be how it was in SAO, where the game turned into a death game. And I'm not fond of the idea on leaving your body defenseless while diving.

TL;DC read if you wish
Anyway, briefly speaking - the nerve gear as it was in SAO, even after the amusphere was developed, are both too flawed, especially in terms of how they'd be implemented, following real-world laws of physics.

It would be cool to have nerve gears alter my perception of time so that every hour that I spend in the virtual world is only a second in the real world (like the time chamber in DBZ). That would definitely save time and also give me more time to do things (revision for tests, extra studying etc). Nobody ever said that nerve gears are only for gaming right?

Not going to lie.. I'd love AmuSpheres... but I'd rather have STL... So I can goof off more(longer?) :3... and realistic water :3!... STL hype~!

if I can see my waifu and kiss her then yes, but if she's a yandere and stabs me, and I die in real life too, then no.

Same as the guy above me really.
I would like to have the sensation of actually holding my waifu and fucking her, and when I have an orgasm, that sensation would be realistic too.
It would be like, THE paradise for weebs like me.

Pretty much impossible. Each unit would need to be a super computer, which means the room would need to be cooled immensely. Also, it would need to be hard-wired to the brain to send the required amount of electric signals. Not to mention, concepts like balance and vertigo are very tricky since they work with your eardrums and the changes in the fluid in them. Also, I'd hate to imagine what would happen if there was a power outage. There could be back up generators, but, really, all this money spent on a game?

You'd have to propagate an electric signal remotely (???) or get major surgery done for a digital interface. The only other option I can think of is to somehow actually pop your consciousness out of your body and onto a machine by some kind quantum wizardry. I'm sure gaming extremists will one day try to achieve such a thing, but probably not in our lifetimes. There are a lot of requirements and as of today few if any of them can be met.
Now, supposing it was possible I still probably wouldn't do it. If you're talking about a 0.0001% chance of the device failing, someone somewhere is going to die from it. Sure it would be cool but I already get enough satisfaction from playing games as they are today. I don't need 100% immersion to have fun.

I think that it could be really interesting, but a lot of testing should be done before it's released to the public, and by testing, I mean more than they do on some of these games these days. Also, user-installed security features would help instead of just security on the company and network's side.

I wanted to look more into the balance aspect and found this (source - american speech, language, hearing association):
This makes me think that most layers of immersion would be impossible since a person's body would just be lying flat in the real world. I don't think you can force your brain to input signals into the game that don't exist.

I think it would be great, in the sense we can do just about anything in virtual reality the only thing would be, say I only have time to use it at night would I still get a full days rest? because my body would be at rest but my mind would me awake O.o

There could be back up generators, but, really, all this money spent on a game?not necessary a game. it could be used for research, such as the later episodes of SAO about the Medicupoid go. About power, our technology on power is getting better day-by-day, and it could be one day that immense power is easy to be achieved. Finally, about the hardware stuff and how much would the progamme take up, it could be entirely possible to counter that. Currently, we are researching about saving information under the small shape of genes, which could save up billions of ZB easily, and yet still take a shape as large as a normal hard drive. (sorry for my english)

Playstation, all day...everyday....Forever!
