what was the stupidest thing you did to your first comp.

I tried to stick a Mac graphics card into my first desktop. Needless to say, it fried my mobo almost instantly.

The stupidest thing I ever done was actually buy a laptop instead of building a pc

Running fsck on a mounted filesystem. Everlasting shame.

not first comp, but in recent memory perhaps a horrible idea in retrospect.



I was incredibly bored that day. Took a good 50 minutes to pull all the ram from salvage. Most of them were 256mb sticks anyways so I feel no remorse. Roof was made from a bent pci slot cover, and 2 sticks of odd looking rimm memory, and some other ancient expansion card.

I pissed on my Dads computer o.O when i was small

I put my first desktop on the rug.

Booby-trapped the PSU by switching the voltage from 230V to 120V.
Dad fried it when he powered it on. Had a s**tload of work that day, and on a deadline to boot.
I was less than 2 years old. :P

Putting in a new PSU which needed the CPU fan to be removed to get it in and after putting everything back i forgot to plug the fan back started my PC used it for 5 min and it turned off,

thought i broke my PC until i checked

Somehow I had managed to set the resolution so low as to render the computer unusable, so we had to run a system restore on it.

This was back when I was around 6.

Download a virus. Then when I got a new one and was more computer savvy shit broke on me.

I talked to a lot of "girls" on the AOL chatrooms.

Installed Starcraft and made it crash until I got a powerful computer enough. Back in 1998...

I have always taken care of everything I've owned even as a kid, stupidest thing my BROTHERS did to the computer though? Beat it with a bat... Liek rly

No antivirus.
Downloaded everything.
Used the tower as a coaster for my drinks.

I bought the wrong RAM for it... I "modified" the sticks to fit in the slots on the motherboard.

It wouldn't turn on.

Before I discovered safer places to browse hentai like Fakku, I downloaded clips from shady sites with the cookiecutter hentai(insert something).com. It ended in disaster and I unknowingly downloaded a Downloader.

I think it got to a point where it was opening 50 ads a second. Most of them were for those virus anti-virus ads and porn, so it was pretty embarrassing when I had to go to my dad to fix it.

Uninstalled something important to install warcraft 3... This was when I was like 14... it wasn't my computer back then... I later adopted the home computer (the newer one) and the stupidest thing I did for that was chuck an nvidia fx5500 into it, which a) is the worst graphics card and b) didn't have enough power to run it (inb4 but a dtr, the lack of power was why it was shit. nop, put it in the next computer, and it was exactly the same... there was no change. It worked fine, just was a piece of shit)

As for this current one, which is the first one that I actually have owned, and built myself? Nothing yet... I did have doa ram in there, without realising.. It was brand new, and kept making the computer bsod. Swapped with a friend at a lan, I was going fine, they then kept getting bsod. Sent them back, and got myself some corsair vengeance, and now it's all good.

The stupidest thing I did with my first computer was purposefully submerging it in about a foot of kool-aid when I was 8 years old. Then when I turned it on later it started a fire.
