When you enter to a topic, what's the first thing you do?

[size=12]You see, I was thinking that not only on fakku but also in another websites we have some reactions about a topic.
1.- I usually try to see the most relevants comments about the subject, cause most of the times you could be saying something already pointed out, so if you can add something to the pool it's great, yet if you found something to support already on the pool it's better (That's "cumming" from me, just an opinion).
2.- But I guess the first impression about the subject does count, it could be out of place because of those who already speak their minds but I was thinking that, that means the topic was "confusing" or it wasn't redacted correctly.
Then:
What's you usual reaction/answer at first to a topic?
From the numbers above, What do you think it's the best thing to do? "1", "2", both?

My usual reaction is to read the first post made by the topic starter. My eyes go to if there is colored text. If not then I read it from the top and make my way down.
I'll decide if I can appropriately answer the topic seriously or if I want to be a smart ass. Sometimes the topic doesn't appeal to me or have any relevance so I just don't post.
