I said 17-22 but now I feel like a horrible person because Kenshin (anime: Rurouni Kenshin) is 28... Waaaaaahhhh...

I tend to favor characters that aren't students. Even grad' schoolers are unusually brain dead compared to those working out of high school in various fiction.

I voted 17-22, however I do feel a healthy balance is critical.
For example, look at anime such as Fullmetal Alchemist where the main characters are within that age range, but the other "iconic" characters are fully grown adults. I like the idea of these older characters setting an example towards the protagonist.
Though Fate/Zero on the other hand is an example where the age focus is much more mature, with the plot not pulling any punches, and not falling prey to classic high-school whimsical occurrences.
However I do like the use of 11-16 in certain anime. Usually this age range is great for more fantasy based anime, Chuunibyou is a brilliant example of this. Ultimately though, it really depends on my taste at the time, it just so happens that most of my regarded anime have an ideal plump zone of 17-22.

I'm 13 so I'd prefer my own age but where do you find that kind of stuff? This is not the 1st post that these stupid kids admit they are under 18 on a adult website.

Mostly 22 and above, most seinen anime have this cool aura around them.
classical it is, like Space battleship yamato, fist of the north star, etc etc.
gundam(quite aware that pilots are aged to 13-25).

I can't tell, I've grown up on some really old stuff like Astro Boy, some really stylized version of Romeo and Juliet anime, Journey To The West[NOT DBZ], and something that also resembles the Romance Of The Three Kingdoms. But I also enjoy a lot of newer things like Rin:Daughters Of Mnemosyne, MSG:Unicorn, Speed Grapher...so I guess, you could say, I was raised along side Japanese anime.

I really don't care if the story is good, but if I had to pick just on age I like characters that have a reasonable understanding of the world around them, so the 17-22 age group and up. Basically young adults+.

I guess it really doesn't matter, but younger characters tend not to have a good sense of right and wrong while older characters seem to have their opinion almost too concrete

[size=12][/h] I don't care how old they are as long as the artwork is at least ok and uncensored in these cases. If I'm reading a pro manga then I don't mind censers.

blah blah blah, same age group, blah blah blah, more relatable ... is that the only reason we have, i say 17-22 because if the girl is hot, i dont have to feel like a pedophile.

I'm not sure, sometimes a younger crowd is nicer, cause then you get character development as they grow. I enjoy shows with more age progression.
