Escorts are inherently of a higher class than prostitutes even though both of them have sex in exchange for money. (Caveat: in this case "escort" is legal because it technically refers to going out on a date with a client, and the sex afterward is considered willing and not part of the transaction)

Not likely. For two reasons. One, I'm just not that kind of material and would never get by doing it. Two, I wouldn't have sex with random people. I'm not particularly conservative and by no means do I hold religious views. However, I tend to have a romanticized view of sexual relations. Granted, there's no science behind it, just a personal life code.

This is pretty much what i hear from most dudes:
i lived on the outskirts of reno nv for two years, and then downtown for three years. in shitty dive motels just off the strip. the kind of places where hypos line the gutters and brillo pads are in every cut and ally. after about a year, i started to get to know some of the locals, and see the "underbelly" of the city. i knew a few people who happened to be prostitutes. i knew others who were inches away from it, and probably are now.
this is spot on what it's like:
i saw nieghbors come home in the morning with black eyes and missing teeth fairly often. i knew a dude who thought it would be cool to get paid to have sex with women, until he was hired by two butch lesbians who beat and analy raped him.
it's a sad twisted world outside.

For me, it would be the societal censure that prevents me from being one. Again, in a perfect world, prostitution would be like any other job, but this isn't a perfect world. People do look down upon sex workers whether they be strippers, porn stars, prostitutes, etc. and would be very averse to hiring someone who has worked in the sex industry for jobs outside the industry. Society views sex outside of plain vanilla married sex as dirty, unclean, immoral, and therefore those who participate in the sex trade are seen as unfit for other jobs, even if they may have the skills to do said other jobs.
The one reason to go into sex work would be money. It always is money.

Social issues aside (and the fact i'm taken)... No because the people who are your clients are usually people nobody else wants to have sex with - hence, they need a prostitute. So I'm not down with doing some icky person for any amount of money. Even if they were charming or attractive, there is something revolting about having sex with a complete stranger, especially when it's not because you want to but because you HAVE TO since its how you make a living.
Anyways, I'd be out of everyone's price range so it wouldn't matter in the end.
