Your response to movie trailers
What's your personal opinion of movie trailers?

I personally think that it's important to know when a movie is coming out, but trailers are released too early and get hopes up and never really live up to the movies expectations when the trailers are hyper-analyzed.

Hugely depends on the movie, on the studio producing it, and the genre. I marked "They expose too much material that's shown in the actual movie", because in comedies they reveal too many jokes, in horror movies they reveal too many scary scenes and in action movies they reveal the entire plot. Of coarse i am not saying this is the way in every single trailer, but it is in most of them, specially the mainstream ones.

I usually like to think that a trailer is what I should expect for the entire movie to look like. There are times though when a trailer gives away way too much (I usually realize that in retrospect).
Terminator Salvation for example
and that was supposed to be the main twist of the movie. It just ruins the whole surprise (not that the movie was 'surprising' at all). I understand that trailers and teasers are different and that trailers should incorporate actual film footage in the trailer, but still, you can't give away everything and expect people to be surprised.
This is my idea of a teaser trailer done well. There's absolutely nothing from the movie in this trailer and yet it gets me hyped for the movie. That's something that I can't find all too well these days.
I hate this teaser in that it's basically a trailer for a trailer. I'd rather have the real trailer out a day early than play trailerception.

Sometimes the trailers are better than the actual movie. Othertimes the trailer doesn't give the movie justice. Rarely have I found a middle ground.
I keep getting you confused with Fiery Penguin of Doom.

Depends
Comedies - shows all the good parts
Action - the tailer can be a lie, though this depends
Horror - makes the movie look way scarier then it actually is
Sci-fi - same as action, just depends
Slice of Life - makes it more dramatic then it really is
Sexy Films - disappointment
Love Flicks - makes them look more intense then the film
Other media turned into a film - depends on the work and how much people cult follow it, because shit hits the fan when this happens. Some are good some are terrible such as Silent Hill 2 the movie (>_>)
Big Box Office Movies - basically the movies that get all the hype because it's got big stars in it, a famous director, from a famous source of media and get's plastered EVERWHERE to say how amazing it is... I feel like this both hurts and helps the film, though it can go overboard easily.

They always use the same sound effects, same scenes. Seems like almost every movie is the same. Also make a scene where the character is just walking down the road to buy milk look really epic. The over hype nearly kills me.

I'm pretty indifferent. At the theatre trailers give me time to buy snacks and use the bathroom before the actual movie starts.

It varies pending on the type of movie coming out. If it is an action movie or superhero one I get excited cause you are seeing it is finally getting ready to come out. A comedy mainly I think "it might be funny, but all the funny parts could also been in this trailer."

Honestly, the last time I went to a movie theater was back in 2002 or maybe even before that. I normally just watch movies on netflix or TV. But I always see trailers and this past year or so i've been pretty dissapointed with how little was left of the movie after the trailer. Like, the trailer was practically the movie >.>

Trailers annoy me, at first i like seeing what is to be expected, but all trailers follow a pattern that annoys me. Fad to black, dramatic tension, epic music, fad to black, fad again, set up a joke, stop music for the punch line that you are suppose to laugh at. All trailers are the same and they annoy me, and they could even show spoilers for the movie.

It's not a big deal, but it does annoy me when a teaser trailer pops up for a movie six months or more before it's released, with little to no information present. They're just worthless. The people that would get the most excited about the movie already know about it because online news would be saying for the past year that the movie was in production, and the people that wouldn't get excited about the movie learn nothing from the teaser trailer. All they do is get people talking for no reason.
tl;dr
If the movie won't be released for a year, don't show us ten seconds of footage! It is asinine!

I have found it easy to distinguish a good movie from a bad by looking how the trailer is put together. There's a clear trend going on in editing a trailer together from inception sound cues to sudden fade-ins.

Trailers generate interest and awareness, which ultimately results in more sales.
The point of the exercise is thus achieved.

They add too much hype and over-inflate expectations.
I sincerely don't like trailers too much though I still watch them. Trailers usually either show the best parts of the movie or they show those parts in an even better way than in the movie. There are even times when trailers sum up almost the entire movie.

I'm going with the trailers expose a little too much about the actual movie.
Movie trailers are great, I appreciate their purpose, they're there to hype up the movie, give you those great action shots or what have you about the movie; really peak your interests.
But sometimes, they just give too much. While watching a trailer, at times, you can general get a feel for who each person is, what they're role is and the incredible plot (if there is one) about who may betray the main character(s).

Forgot my safe word
I try to only watch trailers while I'm at the movies, and avoid them on the internet. They always seem to want to make new trailers, with more content, and I get to feeling like they are ruining the movie for me. Plus, the more I watch trailers, the more I tend to look for the scenes from the trailer when I watch the movie and discover that many of those scenes aren't even in the finished product. In the end, I find they can be more misleading than enticing.

Hate seeing scenes that could be better not shown in trailers, it takes away from that first moment you see it & react
