Umm...I've heard that a lot of people love Obama, but I disagree whole heartedly with most of his plans that I know about...

Is he really any good?

State your arguments here, because I didn't keep up as much as I should have...

He's been president for all of two months. It's really too early to declare his presidency a success or failure. The only ones doing that are the pundits, and hey, they have to write about SOMETHING.

Does he have good ideas? I think he has some, and has started to put them into action. He got the ball rolling on closing Guantanamo and ending the policy of torture. He is trying to stimulate the economy through infrastructure. He has plans to turn over Iraq to the Iraqis and see if all our fighting has given them time to develop some sort of government and army.

Does he have some ideas I disagree with as well? Of course. I am not for his promise to choose justices who will uphold the legality of abortion.

Still, it's too early to make much of a meaningful opinion on whether Obama is a good president. Some presidents have started well and flamed out, like Hoover, and some presidents started off with a mess and rose to the challenge over time, like Lincoln. I hope Obama will prove to be a good president. The US is facing a lot of challenges, and good leadership will be a boon in moving the country forward with solving these problems.

I voted that I don't care about politics because I really don't.
But I will say this; I agree with WhiteLion that it is still too early to call him a failure or a success as a president.
I also haven't heard anyone say he is an amazing president yet, while I have heard people call him a complete failure, and carry on in that manner for a half hour with a great deal of vigor, and a great lack of intelligence. These people, of course, already made their mind up when they saw a black guy running for president, and their opinions mean nothing anyway.
I realize that that's a little off topic, but being that I live in a place that, while being pretty well racially integrated, contains a lot of racism, I hear a lot of people say things about President Obama that have nothing really to do with government or politics or anything. And my step-dad is one of those "from a different time" type racists (bullshit excuse, by the way), who doesn't beat black people for sport, and will act cordial towards my black friends, but when non are around, might as well walk around the house in a klan hood. So I end up having to hear a lot of this, "wat? niggers? in my white house?" type shit from him. And when I'm watching the news at night with him and my mom, whatever the topic is, it's fucking Obama's fault. Just to give you an idea, earlier tonight, there was a bit on the news about the people who were tricked into that big investment scam that the guy running it is currently in big trouble over (can't remember the name), and how they were trying to get back the taxes they paid on the fake money. Granted, they might be getting screwed a bit on it (not getting back every penny), but this is pretty much a direct quote of my step-dad's response, "It's illegal; if the government can afford to give those fuckers at AIG millions of dollars, they can afford to pay these people back!" which I more or less agree with, but here is the fucked part, "and if they federal government did that to me, I'd sue them! and I'd have them put me on TV, and I'd call Barack Obama a nigger to his face!"
My brain actually stopped working for five seconds.

I didn't mean to go off on a tangent like that; my point is that there are a lot of people who had made up their minds before he even got into office that he was going to be one way or another, and they've been hollering about it for months.
I've heard a few good things about him, like the Guantanamo bay closing, and lifting the ban on embryonic stem-cell research, though. So I'm being positive.
but in truth, we don't really know if he is a good president or not.
And I don't really care.
I just hope he is the best fucking president anyone alive has seen, to the point that anyone who would say something bad about him, no matter how bad it was, could be immediately smacked down by twelve wonderful things he did.
Like someone saying, "Did you hear? President Obama sacrifices live goats every morning on live television now!" and the reply being, "yeah, but he ended the recession, got rid of 10 trillion dollars of US debt, brought about world peace, cured cancer, and each goat sacrificed feeds a starving family for a week."
Something like that.
That would maximize my enjoyment of his presidency.

But then people would call him the anti-Christ even more...

i think we all should care about
government because our world depends on them.
@topic: i don't know if he's good or not. but let's just see
the outcome of his plans. :D

I may not live in the US, but based on world wide acceptance, I'd say many still see him as a possible shining star in this gloomy decade of war and recession.

At least, thats the kind of opinion you commonly find in Asia anyways.

.....Bonjob, is that advertising I see in your sig space? :?

Frist magical I'm hurt by the captian asshole thing

But yeah I think it's too early to say good or bad. I don't think that Obama will live up to his rep though because people made him out to be somekind of superman that will make world peace. I can only say this that I hope he dose well. Only thing I'm scared of is that the only reason he won was because he was black. But who knows that might be a blessing in disguise. Maybe a president different from the others is a good thing. I really don't like may of his polices but then again I'm losing my faith in democracy so maybe thats the reason.

It's WAY too soon to tell if he's a good president or not. He's, at least, TRYING to do something, which is to his benefit. Unfortunately, he was left with one hell of a mess to clean up in this country. He could be the greatest president ever and still be viewed in a negative light later in history because he isn't able to fix things during his tenure.

For the time being I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. Chances are, like most presidents, he'll turn out to be OK, neither great nor horrible.

Don't feel bad, Democracy and Capitalism are flawed systems that only work in a nation for a relatively short period of time.

I can't say if Obama is a good president yet, but I can say why Bush wasn't

Little too early to tell, but I'm not a big fan of his Economic Stimulation plan.

I've skimmed over it, and most of it isn't going to stimulate anything but short term repairs. Its all art projects that give little in return to the economy.

If he wants to fix the economy, try putting money towards inventors, construction, and the sort. Things that will, in the long run, make way more money than any art project PEBO(President Elect Barack Obama) can think of.

I'll acknowledge him as my prez once he actually does something to fix our damned economy.

there was 1 option missing "not enough info".Obama hasnt been prez long enough yet for us to truly qualify him as a good or bad prezident we neeed to wait until at least the mid or a little before his middle term then we should be able to decide. If i had to decide now i would say yeah he gave us so far all he promised the stimulus he is working on the other proises he is getting us out of iraq and its all going good so yeah however this does not make him good hes only good if he succeds in these promises and they work out.

Nah. If anything, he won simply because he was a Democrat. Skin color really had nothing to do with it. He probably would have won by a wider margin if he was white, I say.

That's the way politics go. It's a pendulum. Democrats have power (or perceived power, since what the majority perceives is what matters), then Republicans have power, then Democrats again, and so on. If Obama lasts for two terms, I'm sure that a Republican will be the President afterward.

Anyway, like everybody has already said, it's too early to tell if he's a good president or not. But I do like his ideas more than McCain's, so I'm glad we have Obama instead of McCain, and I think the country is better off with Obama than McCain. That's not to say that someone else wouldn't have been better, but those were the only two (real) choices.

Honestly, you cant even begin to make an informed judgment on how well a president did until after he leaves the office. You can agree or disagree with their decisions, but no one will generally know if the approach that was taken worked until it has had some time to grow. Lots of people don't like bush now, but during his first term he had a lot of support. I mean... we re-elected him didn't we?

Obama has invested in a number of programs that a more conservative president would probably see as a waste of time, too risky, or having a low yield. We won't really know if his investments in alternate fuels were the right decision until after the fact, and no one is really sure if its wise to keep bailing out companies that are going bankrupt either. Most likely we wont even begin to see results - either favorable or otherwise - on most of these investments until Obama is already in his second term or even later.

That isn't entirely true... we really don't know what would have happened if Obama had been white. I mean he won by a pretty big margin, but to be perfectly honnest most of his views are too idealist for the average american. Obama won on his image, which was much more powerful than McCain (not to mention McCain was carrying Palin as dead weight). Being black was an important part of that image.

That said, I think chances are good he still would have won, but I think it might have been much closer than people think. For example, the black vote almost always goes conservative... I mean the black vote in California was the prime factor in their vote to ban gay marriage. But in this last election, not surprisingly, Obama got pretty much the whole black vote. I'm sure you can draw your own conclusions as to why they all voted liberal.

Sorry, maybe I'll change it?

Anyway, Maybe I should've made it more clear that this topic is more about whether his plans are a good idea in your opinion, not so much "Will they work". I'm confident his plans will work out the way their supposed to, but do you like the way they'll turn out? Such as one particular bill I DEFINITELY don't want signed because it takes away our rights as parents. In any case, what do you think on that? If you know the bill I'm talking about, there's a chance you agree with me.

If you don't know it, it's where when the child disagrees with a parent's decision, they can call the Government of all people and ask if they're right. In my opinion, it's the parent's decision, not the child's, and definitely not the Government's. Also, this bill will make it illegal to teach your child a religion. That means, if you're christian/bhuudist/atheist/ you can't teach that way. You can only show them different ones, then let them decide. HOWEVER! This is ok past 14/15/16, but up until then, you can't not teach your children your values. Wtf?

Also, and this one is a bit biased for me, he plans on just about eliminating home schooling for children. The problem here is, I don't like Public schools AT ALL!!!! If I have kids, I'm moving somewhere they let you homeschool. No matter what. I also still do my own Homeschool class because I am not on track with my school work, and need a Diploma.

Also, I've not listened to any racist arguments. My mom is very NOT racist, but hates the guy for many of his plans. She knows more than I do, but overall I agree with most of her points, once she explained them intelligently. (I usually don't give a Rat's fart what she says when it has to do with opinions, but we agree on this one)

Anyway, sorry I went off so long, but figured I'd say the reasons this topic is here.

O yes you can jude them before there out.We bgan judging Bush LONG before he was done with his second term same with teddy roosefeld FDR and Lincoln.A good way to start to judge(or just make predictions i prefer that.)is when the prez is in the middle of his term that is when we begin to see the effects of some decisions and if he was good and we can speculate the final out come of saide decisions. We may yet know soon if his investment in alternate fuel is the right decision our decisons up till now have been proven to cause global warming and are killing us all.If we dont bailout banks then we dont have somewhere to store money se what im getting at its all about good mid term predictions when you can start to see whats gonna go down.

But can you really judge a prez during his term? I mean people hated Hover but it really wasn't his fault he was president during the depression. He wasn't a bad president. Look at Linchon half the nation hated him but now he's considered one of the best. I don't think you can look at a president untill some time after their trem because everyone is incredible bias by default.
