About to buy some Games. Need Advice
0
I'm taking a break from fighters and trying some new RPG stuffs. These are three items I was thinking about getting as I have heard some pretty good things about them. Also, it's anime. I was thinking of getting Hyper Dimension Neptunia but it's so expensive so I'll probably hold off till it goes down. Based on this, are there any other games you guys might recommend or perhaps you'd suggest not getting one of these games?
All advice welcome.
Persona3
Valkyria Chroncials
Persona4

Neptunia is 20£ *NEW* on UK amazon but, i don't advice you to buy it as it's pretty bad, Mk2 Neptunia is a bit more tolerable but just as bad.
If you're into jRPGs try:
Ar Tonelico 1~3
Cross Edge
Atelier Iris 1~3
Resonance Of Fate
Star Ocean Last Hope
non jRPG but still good is:
Deus Ex Human Revolution

I don't see any Tales of Graces F on that list....Is that the sequel or just an upgrade?
ALSO WTF, Valkyria Chronicles just jumped 4 dollars.

It's just an upgrade. If you've played the Wii version when it came out a few years back, it adds on a Future arc and that's it really.(I'm sure there's more that I'm probably forgetting though)

Atelier Rorona, Totori and Meruru are good.
Tales of Graces f is really good, I just bought Vesperia and I STILL can't being myself to stop playing Graces f.
Resonance of Fate is really good, once you get the hang of the battle system, then it becomes really freaking rewarding.
Hyperdimension Neptunia's an alright game, it's not very good, but it's not bad either, it's very average.
I personally thought Cross Edge was pretty crappy though, but I honestly didn't give it a chance because I played another RPG like it, Record of Agarest War that I thought sucked, so I was like fuck it lol.
Also, what systems are you looking to buy for? Cause I want to recommend Tales of Symphonia, Abyss and Vesperia, MS Saga, Atelier Iris, and MS Saga too.

Shadow Hearts Covenant was pretty good for the PS2. The battle system was a bit different than traditional turn based games.

Wel if you're a masochist and like it when time restrains bite your ass then, by all means you can get those games.
Instead of these i would suggest ManaKhemia 1,2. It was made by the same guys who made Atelier series and has time restrains as well but, they are not AS HARSH and both games are alot of fun.
As for Cross Edge, it was actually my number 1 most hated game ever......until i finally understood the battle system!
EDIT: I just realized that we are talking about PS2 games as well. In that case....you absolutely MUST! get Shin Megami Tensei 3 NOCTURNE. There will be no questions about how good this game is you just HAVE to play it, no buts.

I disagree with pozertron's opinion on Hyperdimension Neptunia MK-II, but I do agree the first one is lackluster. It's a nice parody that provides quite a few laughs, but that's better in an anime than a game. The second game has a revamped combat system and more characters. The only real problem with the second is most of the characters' skills are locked until Chapter IV for the humans and Chapter VII (only reachable on the True End and maybe the Conquest End) for the Goddesses. To make it worse, the non-Candidate goddesses have only four skills, with three of them being useless buffs.
Anyway, I highly recommend anything with Atlus' name on it. Chances are it's difficult if they created it, but it's fun difficulty rather than fake difficulty. Persona 3 Portable (or FES) and Nocturne are two amazing games I recommend. I personally think Persona 4 was lackluster compared to 3, but that's just my opinion.

Hyperdimension Neptune was the first RPG where i skipped all the dialogs outright without reading any of that nonsense.
Mk2 well....i'm still playing it actually haha

I personally liked the dialogue. The humour made up for the not so good combat, in my opinion. Then again, I bought it expecting a huge parody of the franchise.
As for MK-II, how far are you into it? :3

Mid Boss wrecked my train to Lamebox, but let's not go off topic.

1. Well, if that's the case, I'll just go with MK2 when I get the chance.
2. As for P4, I was looking to get it to understand the story and characters before I go and play P4A. Though it looks like there's going to be P4 Golden but it's only for the Vita. Crap Sandwiches, why not just put it on PS3.

Handhelds are better marketing in Japan, due to them being more popular with consoles. The Vita could use some actual games as well, which could be a reason why Atlus decided to put it on there.

I'm pretty bad with time limits and really hate them. But I never thought that Atelier games (the Arland games, that is) are pretty bad about that. In fact, I was impressed by how fun they are, not despite the time restrains, but because of them. The time limit is simply part of the challenge. If you want to get an Atelier game, I recommend Atelier Meruru, which is the best one I played and the highest-rated Atelier game in general.
I really like Neptunia mk2. It's pretty retarded in concept and execution, but that's actually part of the fun. Especially since it doesn't take itself really seriously (something that way too many JRPGs do). There are better JRPGs, of course, but it's much better than the shit Square Enix produces to violate the Final Fantasy franchise.
I also agree with Atlus games. They are difficult but fun. I'm not sure whether I prefer P3P or P4, though.
