Are you going to buy it?

If the price for the 80 GB goes down I rather buy that one than the slim. Dammnit give us the Yakuza game already!

lol, looks like my grammar failed me... LOL
since, I don't have a Ps3 yet, I might consider buying this slim one rather than the fat one.

I'm gonna hold off on getting this. The PS3 does have a few games i want to play, but not enough to convince me to get it right away. Maybe if it was in the 250$ range, but it will be awhile til another price drop.

I might buy this one, since it can now play PS2 discs with no "hacking" http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2009/08/19/ps3-slim-in-detail-xbox-killer/
:)
and it's bound to be cheaper.

Thats a nice link, mind if I add it to the front page?

Just want to throw this out there in case anyone is planning on buying this with the aim to play PS2 titles:

Ughh, I'm totally split on this. At this point there are so few PS3 exclusive games I'd want that I'm not sure if it justifies the purchase, even with the price cut.
Then again, didn't Eternal Sonata and Tales of Vesperia both get extra content for their PS3 versions? I never did buy either of those. Plus Fat Princess just looks fucking hilarious. I could also avoid needing to switch 16 discs when FF13 comes out... This somehow turned into me trying to convince myself to buy it. >.<
Also, the official name isn't PS3 slim, it went from "Playstation 3" to just "PS3". I want to know why'd they bother. People have been calling it the slim for months, years of speculation, why not just stick with that?

The PS2 compatibility will be in a firmware update through software emulation. Also Sony will completely deny any intent to do so through a firmware update but they also denied the existence of the PS3 slim. Of course there is no way of knowing for sure till Sony themselves makes a statement of it actually happening. I both see it happening and want it to happen.

I just worry that Sony might decide to just offer PS2 games through the PSN store. I mean they keep saying they're losing money so it would make good business sense to offer just downloads as a way to claw back some money.

I know that eventually they will offer games through the PSN store. There is no real reason not to use the 'Playstation Store' to distribute PS2 games. The PS3 can play PS1 games and they offer PS1 games for purchase on the store. If they can emulate the Emoition Engine through the Cell processor they will definitely be adding PS2 titles to PSN.
Progress is rather slow with PSN etc but do we really have any right to complain? I mean it is a free service. Live has the better online experience because you have to pay for it. If it wasn't better then the free service then there would be real need for concern on Microsoft's side. I never used my Live account when I had a 360 but are you even able to purchase things on Live if you don't pay for the online game play feature?

You can still buy things on Live even if you don't have a gold membership. You only need gold if you want to do online multiplayer as far as I know.
