Civilization V

Tested the other day with some friends, and also with Fakku members. Civilization V multiplayer is laggy at best, and cannot-even-start-a-game at worst. Waiting for a patch.Really? It works fine for me. Of course, I tend to play smaller games of around only 6 players and some AI.

I've only played once, but I could tell this game takes huge amounts of time. So question: How do you play multiplayer with more than two people? Do you just have to meet up at predetermined dates? What if you have a five player game going but two can't show up? Does the AI take over or do you have to reschedule? Can you jump into a game? And what do you do while waiting for everyone else to finish their turn?

Do you just have to meet up at predetermined dates? I'd say predetermined dates is the easiest, it's not really a "hey let's play a game of Civ" kinda game. Think of it as playing a huge and way more advanced version of Risk It'll take [size=13]hours[/h].

And what do you do while waiting for everyone else to finish their turn?Snack, fap, smoke a joint and watch a movie. Or just be a douche if you're playing hot-seat/LAN and check what the other guys are doing so that you can counter it. (hot-seat multilayer will come in the first patch if I remember correctly.)

OOOOoooohhhh... I see... Thanks for all those answers. I might buy my own copy if there is hot-seat multiplayer. I assume it is like playing a game of Risk that you don't have to leave out on the dining room table because it is getting late and you have work tomorrow.

This is wrong. When playing multiplayer, whether it be LAN or online, all players take their turns at the same time. This makes the game a lot shorter than it needs to be. It'll go as All Players go, then AI. It makes for some interesting gameplay.

You don't really need a predetermined date. If you want to play with friends, then yes, you do, but if you just want to play a game with random people, jump online and just find a game to play. Simple.

You can still play a game, but it depends on the settings you want. Did you want only the 5 of you playing? Or did you want 5 people with 3 AI? Did you want to play only three of you who came and then set up 2 more AI? It all depends. Also, if you drop, the AI will take over.

You can if it was a game you were playing. You can rejoin if for whatever reason you dropped. Just make sure one of the players you were playing with is on your list somewhere somehow.

You can actually do quite a bit gamewise. You can easily check what others are doing provided you have units around. You could set up trades and whatnot. You can look at your tech tree and see what you want to do. Then if you're done with that and people still aren't finished.... Talk trash and get them angry at you so you can get annihilated... Or you can always be confident of yourself and kill them.

huh, it seems that the multiplayer part have gone through a major uplift from the 4th, so I apologize for my wrong info, which was pretty much only based on the 4th game, since I haven't played much multiplayer yet.
But how does the "all players make their turns simultaneously" work? Especially when fighting? First one to click makes the first move? Wouldn't that totally mess up fighting since the turns would pretty much disappear?

Huh? Civ IV was the same way. All players took their turns at the same time in IV too. And basically, battle went by who went first and fastest and who went last. That means you need to prioritize your targets and stuff. I had to fight a war against two people and that was a little tough, but I held out and won through time...

Maybe. It's an RTS with a lot involved, so it's a given.... And I like to Alt+Tab and go around looking at forums or reading manga.

This game is pretty damn awesome. Might be the best thing I've seen from 2010 so far next to Mass Effect 2. Think I'm liking the Romans the best so far.

I see... Even then, I still Alt+Tab. The game gives a little sound for when it's your turn. >_

Turn up the volume...? Maybe...? >_

Having to turn up the volume so that the other game noises are absurdly loud in order to hear an alleged "turn end" sound is not what I would refer to as a "feature".

I thought you could increase the effect noise and lower BGM and all that stuff... I don't know how that'll work though... I haven't tried... But I have no problem hearing that sound... so... x-x

Ok, completed a game, got an domination win at that. No victory movies either at all D=
Giant Death robot is lulz, and its job does the same as the one in future war something mod i forgot in civ 4. He's a nice Linebreaker for your tanks to rush in and blow stuff up.
I've had twenty of those guys supported by like what 100 tanks which was a combination of modern armor/ panzer/ mechinaized infantry with a topping of Gunship Helicopter.
If your strong enough, combat will play out exactly the same like it did in civ 4 in late eras like modern/future era xD
Unit spam GO! unit on invididdual basis became devalued. lol.
So yeah, stick to like 10-20 units until you get into industrial era or late renaissance if you got autocracy tech.
Civ 5 still sucks cuz I can't get hailed as the king. D= Nor any traces of monarchy stuff fun gone. Its in tradition tree, dun care about it lol.

i've decided to bought the game and played it today.. well, it does have a big change through the game play and it's getting me bored.. i have to say i agreed with Callonia, Civ 4 way better than civ 5.. i missed the random events that happened in civ 4, and i can't do a preemptive early-age siege like i usually did in civ 4.. it took me 10 turn and 6 unit just to take early empty city early in this game.. D:
it might because of your map too big or the city too crowded..
