I did though it was really easy it was fun. I am probably the only who laughed at the Medusa animations as they weakened (lulz bald medusa). The music was memorable and beautiful. The characters were pretty cool too. But there are these skeptics that said it was the "Final Fantasy with an identity crisis". What did you think and why?

wasn't Mystic quest the more adventure quest game that had a life bar and jump button?
if it was i loved it.
but when i think about it i don't think it was supposed a final fantasy game. it seemed like they slapped final fantasy on it just for sales.

you had the option to switch between life bars and numerial values. I liked how you have to use your weapons to get through different areas cutting trees witht he axe, hitting switches with the sword.

Mystic was actually one of the very first games to come out in the US before coming out in japan. Over there its called FF international or US version or something. The design and music was made more simple to appeal to the american gamer apparently.
But whats truly important, is that the soundtrack is just so fucking awesome. I still listen to the battle them and the final boss song to this very day.

I remember it being really good, compared to other games out at the time. I think a lot of people rented/bought it thinking they were getting another standard Final Fantasy, slightly put off because it wasn't, and then later very happy that it wasn't like the other FF's. At least that's what it was like for me... I think.(Gamefaqs has the games's US release at '92, so that's like 15 years ago for me.)
Anyways there was something about the main character that made him really likeable. Was his name Benjamin? I also like the music.

I really enjoyed it. I played it recently even. Well, within the last several years, so I was even spoiled by the then current, and in depth JPRPGs like Chrono Cross. That said, I still really did enjoy the game. I loved the simplistic elements to it. Hard to describe, but it was really engaging it's own way.
