Disgaea 3. Heard it's awesome, enough for me to get off 1?

I've been leveling in the original Disgaea for ages now...really since I got it for the PSP (I had it for console before but someone ganked it =/). But then I saw this:



Maybe I should play 2 & 3 now...this seems pretty cool.

Anyone have the rest of this soundtrack?

Never looked into the Disgaea series. I heard the story wasn't its forte.

Only if you're comparing it to Final Fantasy or some other story-heavy titles. The plots aren't the greatest thing in the world but they aren't utterly forgettable either, and there's a lot of meta humor involved (Etna going from level 1000 or so to level 1 is actually a plot point in D2 and side characters occasionally try to steal "main character" status from whoever the player character is). They ain't really deep but they have a lot of character and the gameplay is a blast, especially if you love level-grinding (what with the FOUR DIGIT LEVEL CAP and all) and seeing big numbers on your damage meter.

Okay, that's it, GTFO. Rent it, buy it, pirate it, whattever. But you HAVE to play Disgaea.

Dunno if you'll still be able to find Disgaea 1 though. The game is so good that is basically sold out everywhere. But try your luck. It's a reaaaaally good saga.

Can't wait to get a ps3 to play the third game.

My buddy has the third, a few of us could make a night of that. Each controlling a few characters, really it is quite entertaining in a group. My baby was a level 450~ Force knight (Last evolution for that particular character)

Anyway, get it. Now. Amazing game, fun as hell.

The Disgaea series is just goddamned amazing. Their forte isn't the plot but really only because they're doing so much else better than other people are doing those things. Really the plot is still better than a lot of other games (though if you have no sense of humor then I suppose you might be disappointed). You can get away with playing the 3rd before 1 & 2 but I highly recommend playing 1 & 2 in order. Though really since the mechanics (both in and out of combat) get slightly more complex as the sequels occurred it'd still be best to go in sequential order.

Mmmh, now you really caught my intention just now. Well i haven't played any of the 3 but i won't be missing anything if i start playing the 3rd one first huh ?

no you'll miss stuff, like disgaea (or maybe all of NIS) best characters of all time, Etna (1st & 2nd game) and Flonne (1st game).

story wise i loved 1 more then any other,
map wise 2 was my favorite(easiest to grind for lvl's maps),
skill wise, challenge, and other aspects 3, though i hated how you'd have to buy the previous game characters, for 3, from play station store -_- (they tried to force me to buy Flonne and Etna, the bastards!)

oh but other then missing out on characters and (imo) best story of the 3 games its fine starting with 3, you wont miss things, maybe some inside jokes, like with the prinnies.

edit: what ramus says also, the games get more complicated as you go, so if you don't start out in order it makes it harder to figure out and reap the mechanics of them (1-3), "if you do things right it can make things 3 times easier then it has to be but mess up and you will never advance" sorta thing

Disgaea is my favorite game of all time, you said you had a psp, buy Disgaea 2, they packed so much bonus material into the game, you get the magichange system from Disgaea 3, along with a ton of bonus characters, an alternate storyline, and more weapons and items, I have all 3 games in the series and I personally like Disgaea 2 for PSP the best.

Is Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness on PSP a remake of the first episode? Or something different?

Its a Port of the first game, but with added characters, second storyline, and more features.

disgaea ds is the ds's version of the psp version right? or is it different?

Ya, its the same game, but you can play as Pleinair in the DS version.

wtf >_<, i wanted to for the longest time but couldn't figure out how, and then when the psp version comes out i buy it, and to hear its on the ds -_-' damn NIS(A) ... no, whoever is doing this to me, i dont need 3 copies of the same game -_-.

I own almost every Nippon Ichi game, Im a bit of a fanboy so I dont mind buying the same games over. They already made La Pucelle for PSP in Japan, And Disgaea 2 DHD was ported, so I have no doubt that they will port Disgaea 3 and other NIS titles.

other than phantom brave i'm proud that i have every game since disagea to when mana khemia came out, but i only have so much income coming my way with a lack of job(had one back then) and its also even hard since i have... idk 37 or so games atm i want. hahaha

i want more of there games like, ar tonelico 2 and 3, even disgaea 2 & 3 portable, even though i used my brothers, now busted up, psp to play the first.
