E3 2011

Whew, wow, this was just an overall crappy, crappy E3. I don't think I can fairly say any of them won. All three of them embarrassed themselves at several points, and all three of them had about equal tidbits of games and information that interested me.
Only Microsoft's conference really matters to me because I have no Sony systems, no interest in the Vita, no interest in the Wii U, and I'm still on the fence about the 3DS.

@Tsuyaru: And that's pretty sad, since Microsoft was all about unnecessary kinect stuff and more Halo games (dun they think they should expand a bit, Halo has been Microsoft only exclusive franchise for like... forever).
*sigh* Weird E3. Most interesting to me was the Vita and the Skyrim/Skywards Swrod footage.

Imo Nintendo did do better than the rest. But the wii u is basically a handheld and a tablet put together.
Well heres the console to the wii u

I'm still not feeling it. No matter how I look at it, I just see a gimmick.

I find E3 to be more about the games now than conference. I can't wait for the live shows for SWTOR, BF3 and other stuff

Specs are coming later today, maybe in the upcoming Reggie interview?
Can't believe anyone who was disappointed by that Ninty conference or is confused about the console. It supports Wii party rubbish using old Wiimotes, but has amazing new tablet and streaming tech and loads of confirmed, gorgeous looking games, inc. big Ninty hitters and wide third party support (AC, Arkham, Metro...). What's the problem?

The problem is that the conference made it feel like another plastic toy, not a new console. Not saying that it doesn't seem cool, and no complains on the games it can run and other stuff, it just had a... odd impact.

Well basically:
No Pikimin
No 3D Mario
No HD Zelda
No GTA V
No pricing
Just a bunch of logos and promises.
Wii U Mad?
No but seriously, i think most people's expectations were unreasonably high.

I'm only a fan of Zelda and that's pretty much it when it comes to Nintendo. It still seems they are aimming their target audience at the casual crowd which I can't complain about that since its been that way for years. Just not my cup of tea.

That EA dude just confirmed that Mass Effect 3 and Battlefield 3 graphics can be handled by the WiiU.

Exactly.
I don't want a bunch of fancy gimmicky trinkets to use on a Wii U. Give me more Zelda, Mario, and Pokemon information and I'm happy. Enough casual. I would have thought Nintendo would have learned that with Microsoft and Sony trying (and arguably succeeding) in infringing on that territory that they would have to step up on the "hardcore" side, but they clearly think they don't have to.

Some info:
It is a combination of a more traditional interface—as previously reported, the New Controller has two analog sticks, one d-pad, four face buttons, two shoulder buttons and two triggers—and the tilting, turning and shaking motion controls that made the Wii a smash success.
The new controller also incorporates a large touchscreen interface, a front-facing camera, gyroscope, and microphone.
Nintendo offered the following loose technical specifications to Kotaku in a pre-briefing on Nintendo's New Console.
* High definition display, up to 1080p resolution via HDMI output
* 6.2" touchscreen on New Controller, running in non-HD resolution
* Internal flash-based media storage, upgradeable via USB and SD carts
* Games ship on proprietary iDensity discs of unspecified, but "large capacity"
* Games will also be available as downloadable content
* Console compatible with Wii games and devices
* Release date between April 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012; or after the end of Nintendo's fiscal year

They say 1080p, but it will be interesting to see if that's proper native HD, or just the current upscaled 720p that the 360 and PS3 put out.
Everyone who thought this looked casual and gimmicky: it obviously is, to an extent. Why the fuck would they abandon the tens (hundreds?) of millions of casual Wii owners by making a pure hardcore console?
They have stepped up the hardcore side massively, but at the same time they've come out with amazing tech that no-one else had thought of or realised, once again. They have fighting games, new Metro, Assassin's Creed, Gotham City, EA and 2K stuff (so Bioshock, Mass Effect, Battlefield maybe) just from memory.
They teased Zelda HD, but they would never announce it yet because it would take focus away from Skyward Sword. Remember this console probably won't be out until the middle of next year. But if it can run Battlefield and Metro it's obviously damn powerful, so I don't think there's much to worry about with Ninty's core games. They will look great and play well.
This is a hugely capable console with iPad like built in functionality; HD video and game streaming to your palms, interesting avenues for in-game experiences and little casual games for around the house. It's a home media device with proper games and an instant draw for Wii owners, who will recognise it is aimed at them, and love the showey tech demos. It's a master-stroke.
