E3 2011

Sorry, abandoned Fakku for a bit. This is the brief 'demo' of Zelda HD. It's not playable per se but you can control the camera(s - there are multiple, IGN said they used one to see the boss crawling along the building outside), so I think it is actually running on the machine, rather than being CGI.

Great article. It also serves to support that (already) much maligned feature, being able to move the game from TV to controller. You could have a sports match or something going while you play. It's like a dual monitor.

"In a post-conference Q+A, Nintendo of America’s Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed that the Wii U controller’s touchscreen does not support multi-touch, being single-touch only, and also confirmed that footage shown in the third party showreel came from Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the games."

The key words being "IN THE THIRD PARTY SHOWREEL". That was based on the Zelda bit, the bird thing and the fact that it will have a Metro game, which are always good looking/demanding. It's a year away, there wasn't likely to be anything much.
Edit: forgot to say, old spec sheet is old, and doesn't rule out native 1080p.

You guys do realise that if this was demoed on a 360, the graphics of the actual console will be even better, right? This thing is already multicore confirmed. There is no easy it's going to be weaker than the 360 or PS3. They showed those third party stuff on a 360 because third party developers haven't had the SDK nearly long enough to make working versions for the Wii U.
Also, I don't see a single blog post from people who had a hand on complaining about graphics. As doswillrule already said, the Zelda footage is confirmed to be rendered. That speaks for itself.

I just want to know who came up with all these retarded names for consoles and handhelds.
PSVita (reminds me of the fucking lemon tea drink) and Wii-U (da fuck?)
Wii-U looks interesting though. I was a bit skeptical at first, but after thinking about it, it's quite something. I hope that developers, besides Nintendo will find a good use for it.

Just because showreal was xBox -> real console will have better graphics? What? There's nothing that says that. I don't doubt that it will be better (it better be, seeing how it won't be able to compete otherwise), but until we see actual gameplay footage of the same game, compared side-by-side, there's no telling. I dun really care if Batman looks better on Wii-U or xBox though, I just wanna see Zelda in HD =D=D
And I personally think the Vita is a pretty nice name, but the Wii-U (Wii-eew) is pretty stupid.

They made the next Wii finally render stuff like its current gen cousins.
Only current problem, name sucks.

"...the sheer amount of geometry, soft shadows, and blurring effects really showed off what the console is capable of doing.
It is, without question, more powerful than the 360 and PS3. Noticeably."

We have a lot of footage and a lot of articles from people who have played it. There's no doubt it's better if you look them up. :)

Also, can't help but mention that I got retweeted by Ken Levine and 7 other people yesterday :D linked to the Sanshee page for his Rapture shirt. It's a wonder that he managed to locate my tweet, it wasn't @ him.

Lets not argue about this it's pointless. There's barely any information on the console itself and theres no games to comapare it with besides zelda but its zelda. It is a fact and no one can deny that its more powerful that the ps3 and xbox 360. Theres a year until the console comes out. I would like to see from the wii u: Spec sheets, what kind of disc drive it uses, remasterd zelda lttp, does it have a hard drive that very big and thats about it. I'm gonna buy this because I love Nintendo (I also love sony and micro so I'm buying those consoles as well....and a gaming pc......i need to work more XD). Hopefully this helps Sony and Microsoft up their game because it's always nice to have competition.
Also Dat Skyrim. It stole the show for me.

what kind of disc drive it uses It uses a proprietary 12cm disc that's 25GB, single-layered in capacity.

=( Bethesda said that the game is mainly developed for console and then ported over to PC... That is bad. I hope they dun do something stupid like removing the modifiability of it. That day is the day I give up on Bethesda.

The most in depth article you can find on the Wii U.

“Right now, Nintendo’s only ready to speak about high-level concepts, about the “experience” and possibilities of the system and its unique controller. Based just on that, it’s difficult for me not to be impressed. Yet I’m not entirely sold on wanting to use this controller, with its bulk and smaller analog sticks, versus a more traditional controller. But if third parties can find ways to utilize the screen in interesting ways, it may be hard to resist.”
Kotaku
It is an experience that incorporates the social appeal of the Wii while also delivering a high-definition visual experience and control interface that video gamers may be more comfortable with. Nintendo says its Wii U is designed to appeal to “the most experienced players” as well as those whose first interaction with video gaming was with the original Wii.
IGN
In short, Nintendo’s gamble works. The controller is the best of both worlds, mixing traditional button inputs with the advantage of having an interface unlike anything we’ve seen from a home console.
Ars Technica
Nintendo came in and delivered a tight hour of content, and once again set the world of gaming on its ear. The ability to play any of these games on the controller while your wife watches television will be amazing, and playing with multiple new controllers also offers a ton of possibilities. By mixing in backwards compabtility with all Wii games and accessories, Nintendo has upped the value in another way.
We’re calling Nintendo the “winner” of the big E3 press conferences. Everything else was interesting, but Nintendo has truly offered something new… once again.
GizModo
We haven’t even seen the beginning of what this thing is capable of, but one thing’s clear today: It works, and it’s a hell of a lot of fun.
MTV
Despite the size of the controller, which feels just slightly smaller than an iPad, it's remarkably light and easy to hold. The back of the controller is curved for your hands, so your fingers naturally rest on the triggers. Unlike the Wii controllers, it's easy to see that the Wii U controller was designed for couch play.
