From what I remember, there are usually 3 options that are regular color, (4 for the brunette with big boobs), and they are:

lone attack
change positions
(heal every one)
charge magic

the orange option that appears every once in a while is a linked attack

the red (at first it only appears with the brunette with big boobs) is a finisher attack - it occurs when the charge at the top hits 100%

HERE IS THE REASON A LOT OF YOU BEGIN LOSING:

You get stars for how well you complete each battle (not sure what the determiners are but it seems like a finisher raises your status). When the battle is over, if you right click the screen five options should show up. the rightmost one is "Status". Click it.

You should now be at a screen with all the witches and their respective brooms. at the top of the right hand box with all attributes there is a box that says "skill UP". Click it.
Now you can distribute the earned stars into different attributes but BEFORE YOU DO SO at the bottom of the right hand box are attacks and the like with white buttons on the rightmost sides that tell you EXACTLY how many stars to distribute to level up. Distribute them correctly (it pretty much is an even distribution) to level up your broom attack. You can also fill up the witches attributes manuall - they are HP, MP, attack, shield, speed, and technique. The last attribute "Technique," if leveled up will spread your points evenly.

Also, you can use your busty brunette to heal the other witches during fights, even though their damaged clothing stays the same (hint hint). If they become naked, however, they're OUT!
