Can anyone name a good rpg that has came out lately thats just as great as the earlier games on the snes,ps1 and ps2?Tales of Destiny: Remake > most if not all other RPGs
Too bad it's in Japanese only, people would LOVE this game.
My only complaint with this game is that the "Leon side" is a bit lacking, otherwise it'd get a straight 10/10 from me

I have seen reviews for this game that range from 120/100 a score so amazing it laughs in the face of mathematics, to this guy's rage review where he bitches for 30 minutes.Just because critics say it's good, doesn't mean that it actually is. There are quite a few games out there that had their dick sucked dry by big game reviewers.
And this looks like it's gonna be one of those games.

In my opinion people were expecting too much from this game and to be fair to FF13 they were set back a year and a half, so pressure to turn out must have been intense.Actually, I wasn't. The only thing I really really wanted was for FFX's battle system to be revived. That's all, really.
But instead of keeping the same, or one-uping, they actually downgraded a whole lot. And that I think is pretty insulting.

From critics, to game sites, to user reviews. There is no consensus between any of them as to what the game is truly like. Usually there is some sort of shared view that the majority has, but it's been everything from amazing to complete shit. That's why I ignore it all. This guy says you push one button throughout the combat, others say different. You can find contradictions to his statements to almost every aspect of the game.

Yeah I get you. But the proof to his statements that he provided throughout the videos was more than enough to know I do not want this game. But if you still want it, glad for you mate.

But if you still want it, glad for you mate.I wouldn't exactly call that proof. He is showing very early combat in the game. I think that is like 20 minutes in so monsters aren't going to be tough, etc. Only watched half the last video so if he was showing other stuff I wouldn't know (Also, I think I used the exact same method to get through 7 back in the day. Don't go quoting me on that though, it's been 8 or 9 years.). If I remember right there was one person who commented on the video saying that it's no wonder that it took him 30 hours to reach chap 11 if he only did it like that. All I am saying is that with all the cussing, and hate he was putting out in that video it would make quite a few people skeptical towards the game. Zeriam here on Fakku has played it with Geassmon and he said it's a vary tactical game in terms of combat if I remember right.
Hope you at least rent the game or barrow it from someone.

I doubt he got it that far. And even if he did, you couldn't get away with that in any of the previous Final Fantasys. You had to at least use apropriate spells. But not anymore. This is just sad man.Heh. I can't remember the last time I used an offensive spell in a Final Fantasy (except for killing physical immune monsters or FF12's flying monsters). So it's not that FF13 is sad, it's that most of the entire series is sad in that regard.

I almost finished 7 but got bored/frustrated. I've also tried some of the older ones but I just couldn't play using the previous battle systems. I am so used to FFX's complex battle system that crappy ones just don't do it for me anymore.
Maybe I should retry playing one of the older ones? If only I knew which ones are the best.

Of course anything older than 7 is going to have sprites and the old chibi look. I can't go back to that after 10. I don't know how you feel about it, but that's my opinion.

"Attack" still kills most everything in FFX, you don't need to switch out characters, it just makes things go a bit more quickly.

I'm so sad now.I'm sorry, I just can't. Tried with 5 I think it was when I was selling some of my old GBA games and I remember how much it annoyed me. Seven didn't make much of an impact on me when it went into 3D, but 10 ruined me. Sadface.

Well, i've followed the series closely since X. So yeah, I'm not exactly a pro in pre-X history.

What about those bomb enemies that explode after 3 turns? What about high defense enemies? Ailment inducing enemies?
There's quite an array of them to keep your hands busy using all kinds of spells and abilities.

Sure most of your attacks are going to be the attack button but in other series you usually had to figure out when to attack (take the SNES FF2's mist dragon for example or FF7's train graveyard's ghosts) and some enemies deal out a lot of damage but have low hp so you want to use an area magic or something that can 1-hit them before they tear your party apart - especially if there's a group of them. And some enemies like bombs will blow up if you take your time so you want to use their elemental weakness (ice) to quickly extinguish them before you get pwnd.
With FF13 you dont see any of this except for boss battles.
Also you usually had a thief character who would steal items during battle so you had to plan around that if you wanted something off a boss.
FF13 pretty much threw complexity out the window and made it so any idiot can beat it easily.
Also wheres the mini-games??? This can really decide whether or not I'll buy a game. I didn't really like FFX much but going around scouting for people and owning at blitzball was pretty cool.
Take the Baigan fight for example from FF2: he would periodically heal himself for a fuckton, your party consists of 2 mages and a paladin so what do you do? Cast wall on him so his heals reflect on you and then cast wall on a party member and bounce spells off of him onto the boss. Then it gets really annoying as it will wear off at the wrong time and you accidentally kill your character. That fight was so fricken hard the first time I played it and that was barely halfway through the game. You do not see this kind of thing any more.

We don't know that. We only seens clips of other people playing the game alil in the review. And that guy overleveled. He HAD to to be hitting 13k. I rarely used magic spells unless I was bored. Physicals and summons all the way.
Also there is a few mini games. Not many but a few.
Animeholic has basically said how I feel about this situation. So I don't have much to say.

I think FFVII and FFVIII are good if you don't try to get EVERYTHING in the game. That's when it gets frustrating. Their convoluted and interesting story lines are very good and their battle systems are even better if you shut off the completist that tells you that you need X materia or X guardian or whatever.
That being said, I really enjoyed FFIV and FFVI. There's something classic and home-spun about them. Didn't finish FFV because my game would glitch shortly after Galuf... you know...
FFIV is one of my favorites in the series for its clean arc.
But FFTactics will always be my number one. Now there's a balanced game for you. Addictive game play, clean, smooth story line, with the right amount of story-pacing and learning curve. Please play Tactics.

This. Tactics is amazingI think the best thing about Tactics (next to immersive, NUTS gameplay and storyline) were the characters. They were all mature, well-spoken individuals who didn't have crying fits. Ramza also wasn't a pussy. He was a real fuckin' man with nice hair, haha. I think he totally had a sister complex, too, which deserves more points. I think Orlandu should be played by none other than Sean Connery if there ever happened to be a live version of that goddamn game (which wouldn't be a bad idea since it's medieval-ish).

Ramza is defiantly the man. Agrias is awesome. Orlandu makes the game easy once you get him. The storyline itself is irony as I read somewhere. Ramza fights and doesn't even get thanked. And Delita becomes what he always hated most. A manipulator and a hypocrite.

I feel like re-downloading a PSX emulator and .ISO of this game just to play it again, but I work everyday. I think I saw an Agrias thread in the nosebleed section, rofl, or maybe I just saw a bunch of Agrias pictures (total win). I always liked Delita. I thought they would come out with a game just for him or a game where you could see the reverse story. He would make an interesting main character. Have you played Tactics Advanced and Advanced 2? Are they any good?
Rofl, these vids the OP posted about FXIII are funny. I don't think I could sit through 3 hours worth of cut scenes though.

The other ones are alright. Nowhere as good as tactics. Delita would make an interesting main. I liked him at first. Then seeing him sink into darkness made me hate him. Ramza always wanted to be like him. Ahhh irony at its fullest. I have tactics on my ps3 <3 paid 8 bucks for it
