FFXIII straight to shit

Is that by choice or by circumstance? You have missed out on some pretty awesome games if you haven't played anything since 7.

Then, what about all the free spaces you're left with? You can use all of those empty nodes to create more spheres, and then activate them.Spoiler:
And by using these you can decide to overpower their hp, or their attack, etc. And that's actually the secret to being able to defeat the dark aeons. I fucked up using my the free spaces, so now I don't have good enough stats to fight the harder monsters and the only thing I could do to defeat them would be to restart the game and use my empty nodes correctly.
I can't remember for sure, but I think these spheres where not easy to obtain. Also, these guys go into more detail about how to correctly use nodes for max efficiency.
Okay, that's somewhat customizable.
The best game I can think of right now is Diablo 2, where stats and skills are not predetermined for you and you choose how you want to level your character. It's so easy to fuck up the character in that game. That's what I would call fully customizable leveling.

My opinion is that you have to enjoy the game for what it is - not what it isn't or doesn't have in the past games. But what if what is is not enjoyable? Then we have a problem.
Then play a different game.

I think the last FF game i really enjoyed was FFCC for the Gamecube. The crystal bearers was horrible -_-.
Im thinking about buying it just because its the very first FF game on the PS3/360.
I'll wait till the price drops tho, Im not going to pay for a game that uses most of its disc space for Cutscenes and flashy effects instead of towns and battling. Oddly... It reminds me of FF crisis core due to its straight forward gameplay.
Ill just download the GoW3 demo in the meantime.

I enjoyed it as well, however, I couldn't do it on my own, and when I was with a group, we'd never cooperate and get owned by bosses. <.<;;
Especially that... Gigas and Lamia boss, forgot their names. She'd just spam heal and I'd never get anywhere. D:

Really cool video. I expected him to go into a bit more detail but this is fine too.

After seeing those videos I'm glad that I used all my money on buying games like Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 1 & 2. The only really good RPGs to come out in awhile. As soon as I can I'm going to get Borderlands and Modern Warfare 2 since everyone at my job has basically ridiculed me for not having them.

Alright dude, I had a serious fucking problem with this so get ready for wall of text.Spoiler:
You sneaky little bastard.
Spoiler:
Now, if you've seen this review right after watching Nama's bitching about it, then you may see this as a big blow job. But hey, this review actually makes the game look, you know, fun.
Why is the only black guy in this game have a damn super afro and it's a stupid bird's nest!?!
Racist, Japanese bastards...I like their women though so I guess it's all good.
EDIT:
My favorite Squaresoft/SquareEnix games:
1.Final Fantasy Tactics (Because Ramza is a beast)
2.Chrono Trigger (Because Frog is the man)
2.Chrono Cross (Because the second game makes more sense with CT. They should have brought Frog back.)
3.Final Fantasy VI (Because I wanted to make it number two, but Frog is the man. I love you Terra!)
3.Dragon Quest VIII (It may be more of an Enix game, but it says Square on it too so I count it. Best thing about the merger was this thing. I love everything about it.)
4.Super Mario RPG (One of the best Squaresoft games ever! Geno is the man!)
5.Final Fantasy X (Tidus beat the shit out of his dad...damn!)
6.Final Fantasy V (I don't remember the story, but I loved the gameplay.)
7.Final Fantasy IV (Second Squaresoft game I beat and loved the whole bad guy redemption thing. I always knew Rydia was a hottie.)
8.Final Fantasy IX (Everyone dressed like idiots except for ViVi. Loved the gameplay, but I pretended everyone was better dressed so I could get through the game. Zidane you gay retarded monkey boy.)
9.Final Fantasy I & II (I still haven't beat these games and it is driving me nuts. I just can't play rpgs like I used to.)
10.Mystic Quest (It all started with this game my brother let me play after I harassed him to let me play. After that I got hooked on Super Mario RPG.)
Final Fantasy VIII pissed me off with that draw system so it only gets an honorable mention. Final Fantasy X-2 and Final Fantasy XII are dead to me.

all i have to say is that if you are going to complain about a stand alone rpg about being to linear, get a mmorpg. i really dont mind that they are doing things slightly different. mmorpg's didn't really exist then, other than runescape in the 90's, so having an adventure while doing things on the side was the norm.
now that mmorpgs are out and about with gusto, why make a game with sidequests and adventure for a non-online game when you can go all the way with mmorpgs. if i was square, i wouldn't want to put too much effort in sidequests for a rpg nowadays and save it for mmorpgs (and make a better ffxi).
also, not every rpg story ever told, especially if from square, needs to be set in a mediaval (sorry if misspelled) fantasy world with old british accents, dragons and other mythical beasts/creatures (elves), and a standard class system. magic, or mages, doesnt always have to naturally exist in a rpg world. not every rpg needs an excalibur that is a sword. i, however, would like it to be because i dont want it to lose its meaning later in life to where excalibur becomes a word that loses its original meaning and story and just becomes a word that means "legendarily awesome"
all i can say is have an open mind and dont become prejudice to new ideas just because they might ruin your childhood dreams and do things differently to the way you are used to play. its called change for a reason, not exactly evolution, but not a degradation (if thats a word)
one more thing, ffxii battle system is just a the same thing except you can MOVE and some things are automatic so you can have preset strategies. just because you are givin the liberty of movement on a battlefield automatically means you can run around flailing your sword around like a naked retard in a candy store. its just movement with your normal rpg gaming to make entering, escaping or avoiding a battle easier and more streamline, i dont need a flashy intro in every battle, especially if its a stupid goblin or hare (i decided on day to level up to lvl 10 in the evil forest of ffix one time) and a results screen to see the the 12 gil i won and my spoils that i didnt get because it was needless battle.
to tell you the truth i have never played a mmorpg before and i just wont (yet) because there are people i know who just want to do willy nilly and not enjoy a good story, or even just a good small adventure in a castle or cave. and besides, i have smash brothers, call of duty, and even checkers if i wanted to have fun with friends. dont stick to
i really dont feel like posting more, but i will post more as the argument becomes a flame. lastly, if anyone has read this far, this is purely opinion and dont take everything i typed to. seriously or I WIN. remember rule 14 (no i dont go to 4chan i just remember some rules of the internet) unless you are merely stating a rational opinion or argument in a respectable manner, then i will listen, or read, respectfully.

Not sure which thread to post this in, but I'll go with this for the time being:
XIII's getting a lot of hate, but it's also getting a lot of love, and I am immensely confused. I know the graphics are great, and the story is good, but is that all there is to it?
From what I've seen and heard, I'd hate the battle system. I prefer RPGs where you control your entire group and, well, it's like an RPG and not an action game. I mean, I liked the Kingdom Hearts games, but I didn't see them as being RPGs. If I want to play an RPG, is XIII the place to look, or is it just an action game with stats and leveling up?
Also, the lack of towns and everything makes it seem like just a movie with some fighting between scenes. Again, not something you see in RPGs.
So, is Final Fantasy XIII doing something new in the RPG genre, or is it just abandoning the core gameplay elements of RPGs and doing something else?

Final Fantasy 13 is doing something completely different and I fucking love it. The battle system makes so much more sense when you actually use it. There is no way that you could control all the characters and decide their attacks while playing FF13. Too much is happening too fast. If you tell Lightning her attacks and then go to Snow, Lightning will have finished her attacks before you even finish with Snow let alone the other characters. So while you're deciding wtf to do Lightning and the other characters would be sitting over there going, "WTF They're attacking me! Tell me what to do!". Your characters would be dying left and right.
Also, as for the lack of towns (Warning there might be a spoiler up ahead.). Everyone is terrified of the characters in the game because they're l'Cie. They would be reported and captured the moment they went into a town or a highly populated area. It would make less sense for their to be a town where everyone is like, "Oh hey enemies of the state. Come over here and get goods from my shop". I'm not done with the game yet, but they're still on Cacoon and that would make no sense for their to be a town that just welcomed them in.
All in all I fucking love this battle system. Final Fantasy would get a 8/10 right now for me, but if the story gives me a wtf moment or makes me cry that is going to 10/10.
