I thought with less than a month till the game goes live i would warn as many people as i can... I have been beta testing for a few months, Open beta starts torrmow (this could change things, though i have little faith it will) As it currently stands... Its Much like All other Square Enix Titles of the past 2 years or so. It looks pretty the rest of it is a disappointment... If your looking For An MMO to put 25+ hours a week into, this is not a game for you.
There is no plans for an auction house.. players are forced to interact with one another to buy and sell goods... most if not all equipment is crafted, Problem is the crafting system is awful and players will spend countless hours and money trying to craft one item... The Game looks pretty.. it plays decent (alot of aspects of combat remind me of wow). The So Called "Class-less" system Really is but isnt at the same time... Your class is determined by what is in your main hand... as you level that class you learn new ablitys.... once learned they can be equiped by any class, unless otherwise stated on the ability its self. Back to economy.. each account is issued an Npc called a Retainer.. this retainer can sit idle in a zone for retainers to idle and sell goods(even while your not online)... however retainers can only sell maximum of 10 items at a time, they also act as an item bank of sorts holding un-needed items for you.. you can purchase additional retainers for an additional 2-3 dollars a month... based on this as well as the fact SE is pushing it as a "casual MMO" (a concept i solidly believe cannot work)
At least at this time it FF14 is shaping up, as a half ass attempt to Generate income for SE ... easiest way jump on the mmo bandwagon. Open beta could change a great deal of things... but the issues i have stated are not bugged and working as intended. If your Dead set on buying it.. i would say wait atleast 6months to a year and see if things have improved.
Just a warning to my fellow gamers

Only die hard FF fans of FFXI will buy this game and its bad enough that you cant play for 13 hours without stopping. Same fighting systems but slower and its more user friendly.

At first, I lol'd hard when I heard you had to pay an additional 3 euros/month for each character you create but after a second thought, it might not be that bad of an idea.
That said, I don't think i'll buy the game. If there's a free try-out somewhere, then maybe I'll check the game out.

Yes this is indeed True additonal Characters increase the monthly fee, but aside from using them for additonal item storage, theres no purpose.. its not like WoW for example. where you choose your class when you make the character and are stuck with it from that point on. You can Quite literally change From any class to any other anywhere in the world via switching your main hand weapon (or tool depening on the purpose of the class)

I'm really not planning on trying out the game at launch. At first I was interested, but from what I have heard, the game is not really polished at this point.
I guess I will wait until someone close to me who has tried it out actually tells me it would be worth my time.

http://www.gamesradar.com/ps3/final-fantasy-xiv/news/final-fantasy-xiv-limits-you-to-8-hours-levelling-a-week-why-thats-a-good-thing/a-20100826151146781010/g-2009060212274149050
tl;dr: levelling can be done only during 8 hours a week.
Some might think of it as bad trolling but I find it interresting. Assuming I will buy this game, it doesn't mean I will spend 8 hours a day behind my PC, especially starting October. This means you'll be able to enjoy the game at a more affordable pace, without having the feeling of being left out by all your other hardcore IG friends. And that usually annoyed me in other MMOs like...You meet people, you play and level up together but oops! time is running out, I gotta go. Next time you log-in again, your friend gained 20 levels and is now out of reach. Now have fun finding another partner.

Game is in open beta Right now if you want to play with it for free, but the client loves to crash.. and is close to 10GB in size.. and for the system requirements.. well if your computer can run 14 efficently.. theres alot better games out there for you to play, i got so fed up with loosing my guild leves due to crashes... i uninstalled the client..as i said pryor.. MMOS can be a great source of income.. WoW has kept blizzard afloat for several years now, and Funded Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2.. SE is trying to jump on the bandwagon with this in mind..Only problem is WoW was good up until they started giving in to the casual gamers, which has begun to slowly kill the player base.... SE has 11 to compete but since 11 launched most other games SE has released, have been mediocre at best..
At the very most i give 14 a life span of 2-3 years... Casual gaming and Mmorpgs are not something that will never play well together.. if you want casual gaming go play the crappy little games on facebook...i can go on and on about flaws and issues in the game..and these are ones that have been around since late alpha (so there intented to be that way) i am basing everything off my experance from late alpha all the way up to present so about 3 months worth of version updates and bug fixes

its not worth your time. I got so many gripes with the game right now, its ridiculous. The game is not user friendly at all, its not stable and it has a dormancy system while still asking you to pay. Thats just the 1 part of it.
anyway, just try it. I hated my experience and im gonna buy other games.

Mustn't Run Away...
let us not forget the "fatigue system" that will only allow you to recieve 100% xp for 8 hrs a week...then 80% after that...then fucking 0% so you get a lil more then an hour of grinding a day before you get to eat shit and die..at least its given the japanese enough time to create a nude patch cause they have to wait for the damn timer to finish

It could take 8 hours or 20 hours to reach that 0% xp value...its an actual value..and only penalises the one class... IE you get to 0% xp with lancer... you could switch to any other class, and get full xp with it... while not on the class being penalized the penality slowly recovers back to full over time. However the week timer is a hard reset where all penalitys are reset.
As for the update, on things... The open beta was even worse than all the other beta stages combined, The servers constantly had player load issues... the server lagged constantly... it still took 10 minutes to attempt to craft one item.. The client was constantly crashing..after about 2 days of it i got fed up with it and uninstalled the client. As hard core mmo player (as in if i get into the game its not uncommon for me to play 20+ hours non stop if i have nothing better to do) this is definately an mmo to skip.. sadly i was really looking forward to this game too when it was first announced... but SE went and fucked it up... I Honestly Dont see Squenix lasting much longer as a company... the quality of their games has gone down hill drastically over the past couple years...i think what upsets me the most is FF11 which has been going 6-7 years now... is superior to 14 in everything but graphics.. which is sad... you would think SE would of learned form their mistakes with 11 but no ... instead they take those mistakes and make them even worse

It's the same everywhere. People critisizing a game because of unstable servers during a BETA phase. Aion had the same problem: over an hour of wait time to enter servers, constant lag when playing etc... But as time passed, everything got fixed and everybody's was happy.
People should stop whining over trivial things and wait until the game is finally released.
As for the gameplay, it may be bad or good, I don't know, it's a different story.

Explain the fatigue system everyone is upset about.
