FPS Sniping

Like many of you, I'm someone who loves to play first person shooters. Also like many of you, I have a fondness for sniper rifles. Where the difference begins is useage, as it were.
I am sick and tired of seeing people rushing the enemy like Rambo while armed with a PSG-1 or Dragunov either quick- or no-scoping. To me, that destroys the point of having these weapons in the game. If you want to do that kind of Quake-style rush, use a combat rifle, shotgun, or just go play some more Quake!
I admit that some gamers are good at that, and it works, but it's hardly a half-step up from being a greifer. I take the time to learn which weapon I like, what it's range is, and then look for places that make sense to snipe from in-game; it's really not that hard if you know at least to not let them see you.
Anyway, now that I've got that disjointed mess off my chest, I'd like to see what some of you folks think. Am I nuts or what?

One time at gamestop I was watching these kids play Black ops, and somebody held the zoom for the sniper rifle, and this other kid complained that he was hard scoping

I just do my best to avoid any talks of fps. Because the logic of adolescent gamers baffles me.
You want to not use the weapon how its supposed to be used because its not how you do it?
Excuse me as I shoot your dick from across the map.

I like to do both. "Camp" or what I guess should be common sense, sniping is what I usually do. I'll hang out in an area for a couple of minutes get any number of kills, or lack thereof, and then move onto another section to rinse and repeat.
That said, running around the field and quick-scoping or quick hard-scoping can also be fun. I find I'm not very good at that at all, especially in the CoD games because I get so disoriented using a normal powered scope rather than the ACOG, and the idle sway of an ACOG scope on a sniper rifle is something I've never been able to adjust for. Nothing quite as annoying as shooting someone in the chest and only getting hitmarkers because I managed to sway enough to hit them in the arm rather than the torso. Ugh.

To be honest whenever the map is huge on any game I see less aggressive snipers floating about, so that usually somewhat solves everything.

I personally liked what they did to sniping in Black Ops. I might be the only one. They essentially eliminated quickscoping and sniping all around wasn't too bad other than some bad hit detection. Then MW3 made it worse than MW2 and made a perk called Quickscope...err I mean Quickdraw.

That's essentially what I do, and part of the reason I like the BF series more is the ability to act as support. Spotting enemy mobiles and armor can get you as many points, and assists, as being the guy blasting away with his grenade launcher.

Well for COD sniping in most maps are totally useless so what can ya do right?
I remember back in COD2 and we used Scopeless Bolt-action rifles
no one complained about it.

TO be honest Ive always wanted a game where I can sit off and hold my breath for 20 years waiting for a target to come by. patience and ambience, could be nice..

I hate quick scopers but if they want to play that way then so be it, they better hope they not miss though because i love punishing them for that. ;D

Personally I despise "quick-scoping" in closed quarters. However, even at range in a fantastic sniper perch hard scoping tends to get you shot in the back, though that has more to do with other gamers than anything else.

i agree with you on that. i hate that people go running around with a sniper rifle and quick scopeing their asses off.the resaon i love to playing FPS games is cuase it feels like a simulation. and in real wars snipers arnt running around, they are cammping. now theres stupid cammping and theres cammping the way it should be.in stupid cammping you just sit around and HOPE someone comes running by till you get found and shot.and in smart cammping you camp across from the "hot spot"(you know that spot on the map were EVERYONE seems to be dukeing it out)you take a few shots then sift position. then you leave a nice bouncing betty suprise (cod5) for that guy you just killed thats obviesly going to go charging to the place they saw you kill them from.

indeed, I play it loads and love it to bits, but the online games have too much going on for my liking, I understand sniper ghost warrior is somewhat like this, but the online is just a game of hide and seek. I'd prefer if, say, teams of two or three could compete in objective based games, however the snipers have to stay hidden. and miscalculating or mistiming your shot would have dire consequences.
Lol, I should just become a game designer.

Ever since MW1 Sniping has gone down hill in the CoD franchise. All the WW2 era CoD games the snipers are mostly bolt action rifles. that have a scope attachment option. Give us the ability to remove the scope and you would have people using sniper rifles in CQC without the unrealistic no scoping/quick scoping.

If I'm not mistaken, BF3 lets you do that too... I've been playing it since launch, and it never occured to me to check that -_-;

I seem to recall COD: World at War forcing you to earn your scope for your sniper rifle, leaving you with only ironsights for your first few kills with a new rifle in multiplayer.
