Frontlines: Fuel of war

Bought it yesterday through steam, still downloading, it looks so awesome, on par with most games coming out today, except of course the epics.
Official Game site
Basically this is a Battlefield style game of war in the near future, 2024.
Quick heads up on what happened:
Game mechanics?
Major battlefield style, 64 players on one map with the center of attention on team play, your sitting duck on your own but with someone covering your back you can LITUARALLY stand up, aim, fire and duck again without 5 snipers up your ass.
It's also more advanced on the overal terrain graphics than most Battlefield games actually.
It came out 2 Feb, 2008, but it still looks sweeeeeeet.
Seriously, check it out.

Yeah well, I bought this when it came out and thought it was kinda meh.
The game certainly tries to add realism and develops a very "plausible" backstory(you could literally spend an hour reading all the detailed files in the extras menu), but all that hard work was shattered when I found I could gun down entire battalions with a toy helicopter.
Difficulty settings are not very challenging either.
Perhaps playing only through the initial stages of the campaign mode didn't give me a very thorough idea of the game and after reading your post concerning this title, I think I'll try proceeding further into the story later tonight...
(can't say anything about online because I'm a cheap bastard)[/h]

And about that helicopter thing, you might want to read up on it on the site... You'll see, it's not a toy, ooh heeeeeeeell no.

The Lord of Butts!
i bought it for 10€ in the game store recently. got bored in the 6th mission and never tried multiplayer. Is the MP part better than the SP campaign? are there vehicles to drive too? (in MP)?

And the airial dog fights look really good to, seems like you really need to keep an eye open on just about everything 0.0
Off topic: Man i love that avi >.>

Well, it's true that, as said on the site, it was originally a toy for recreational purposes... It now kind of has rockets attached to it, hardly a toy anymore now is it?

Sure, but if making a recreational mini heli into a war machine means putting rockets on it, than i do believe that a vice versa process should be implemented for your magnum. Thus, painting a smiley face on it AND stripping the insides, replacing it with non working components. Yes, thatincludes taking the bullets out and filling the compartment for the ammo with something else, mayby plastic or something.
But to be honest, the heli was an emergency invention by the Red Star Alliance, using what they had to counter the coalition's advantage, i don't believe there exists such a drastic need for recreational objects to be created as to downgrade military hardware for that sake.
In the end, no civilian is gonna get their hands on military hardware, and the military has no use for toys without upgrading them to military hardware first.
Rant aside, played the singleplayer, though i kinda went Rambo NON stop, it was good fun. Recoil is really heavy, making this the opposite of MW2, where you cannot kill without zooming in basically. And in the game, if you zoom in, recoil bounces the gun back into your face so you have to fire from the hip on short to mid-long ranges.
Going to try the MP tomorrow

Haha, frankly, I was just disillusioned with the idea or RC helis, even the coalition ones. Their designs are not menacing enough or just plain silly in the context of video game war (don't know about real life applications of miniature helicopters, not sure if it's feasible from a strategic point of view. Wouldn't they be noisy and fairly easy to spot?). But when I think about it, I don't know why I accepted the ground drones, I mean, the same "toy" concept applies.
I still think it's just a kid's pastime object on steroids like G.I. Joe...[/h] >_>
edit: Oh, and how was MP?

Sorry for the slow response, first my response to your opinion.
Those machines already exist my friend, miniature ground reconnaissance vehicles are already in active service in close quarter combat zones, like urban area's. They are compact enough to carried on the back with the rest of the equipment and small enough to slip around people and observe, and yes, they are quiet. Military adjustments.
Now, with the helicopters it becomes difficult, bottom to top designed by the miltary? Than i have no doubt it can be used, after all, it's a mini assault helicopter with no people in harms way. Thats exactly what the military wants, and with the right design they can be practically soundless. However, i don't think those are being produced just yet.
And about MP, i've been trying but it's impossible to play on it... 56 servers online? No matter how long i wait it will only show 6-10 and most of them are abandoned or have a really bad ping.
I'll tell you guys when i've got something new but for now the match search system has dissappointed me badly. If you ask me, they already abandoned the mp on the game.

I agree, ground drones are certainly useful. I have seen(on the Discovery Channel at least) robots being deployed in bomb threats to locate and even defuse explosives, not endangering any member of the bomb squad. For reconnaissance, it being small and fast, may give troops an advantage, but I see it being of use only in short distances as satellites and spy planes(most of which are RC btw)cover greater spaces in a shorter time.
Now, for that reason, I believe miniature RC helis are, at this time, useless, unless a practical noiseless version with increased range is created.
MP is a no-go then?

Sons of a... Just played a MP match, SWEET MOTHER OF that was AWESOME!
Trust me, i hate mp but that was EXACTLY what i like!
I think i'm still shaking 0.0
Edit: Make no mistake though, sometimes the search engine becomes reluctant and decides to not show a single server, and most of the time it doesn't even show 1/5th of the apparant server. However, once you find a good game... It's like heaven, i have crap reflexes but unlike in the battlefield games i can STILL play a major part in the game, something as simple as the distraction of a sniper can give my team the opportunity to run for that tank and blast his head off.
It's SO awesome...
Another edit: I also noticed that, in fact, anybody who's played the singleplayer will be capable of jumping into the multiplayer as an infantry guy and just, kick ass. I've only ever met 2 true skill guys. Damn i hated facing off against them, damn best HC pilot's i've ever seen, 35/6 on average. It's fcking insane looking at how many rockets i fire at them.
