Game comparisons, where they go wrong.

So, Just thought I'd ask people:
Have you seen anybody compare a game, and make a huge deal of one, saying it's all this, saying the other has none of it, when It actually does have all the same features?
My example being a guy commented on a forza 4 vs gt5 clip, stating gt5 is so much better due to realistic graphics, nascar, realistic damage (forza is a little unrealistic, but it has a decent damage system, bar totalling your car), rally, better graphics (they are about the same) and much more detail (they literally are almost the same)
I was going to reply back stating how forza has all that, and the rally in gt is terrible anyway, and he should go play a real rally game (dirt or whatnot) if you want rally...
Another example was we were talking about how bad too human is, and a fanboy came on trying to tell us how it is the best game in the world. And then we had a nice little talk to him about how it wasn't xD
So, Any of you had any experiences with fanboys comparing games and being overly bias?
(My opinions on gran turismo are based on the fourth and below, which weren't that great compared to forza imo. I'm a lover of full car customisation, being body kits, engine swaps, drivetain swaps, wheel changes, paint etc. I know gt has wheels and paint, but AFAIK not bodykits and engine swaps and drivetain swaps)

I still remember G4's written review of Metro 2033. Guy compared the game to several different titles, saying that the shooting is not as good as MW2, or that the horror elements are better done on Silent Hill and so on. I literally wanted to punch that guy in the face for his ignorance. Sure, Metro had some short-comings, but you can make ANY game sound bad by making such comparisons. Guy even felt the need to bitch about the controls, saying how weird they were, again comparing it to MW2. If you ask me, the controls didn't seem too different from Far Cry 2, so I got used to it rather quickly. Point is, I think the only time that a game should be compared to another is when it's a comparison to other games in the same series, or if both games in particular are already extremely similar to each other.

well ive seen this sort of mistaken if not completly biased comparison for the newest MMO SWtor compare to WoW last 2 month. Getting kind of sick of reading them. Not that i look for them but happens when u got to much time on the web.

What's usually wrong with game comparisons are that people usually blur the line between objecive criticism and subjective criticism. Often times, loyalty to a brand or genre will usually cloud one's judgement on a game. Gta 5 vs. Forza are two different genres. Forza is a PURE racing game whil GTA 5 is more of a sand box baby made with 3rd person and driving.

I agree because each game offers a different dish, but it's like an idiot saying to every god damn Asian, "Where's the dog?" or some shit like that. What IS a good comparison are games that are within there own world. Example would be Call of Duty to Battle Field because it is the same concept, but has a different way to serve it's main course.

On Pokemon boards, it's a common topic of which generation of Pokemon was best whether in the metagame, the in-game, the Poke'designs or the music.
For fighting games, it's usually big competition to whether or not a certain game is good enough as a competitive fighter. People say Street Fighter or BlazBlue or Tekken or Marvel Vs Capcom or Mortal Kombat. EVO recently announced that they weren't having BlazBlue in their tournaments which was a gigantic shock to a lot of people in the Dustloop community. In it's place or something rather, they're adding Street Fighter Vs Tekken, Soul Caliber 5 or Mortal Kombat due to the lack of reception BlazBlue got at last years EVO. It's hard to compare the games I guess because Soul Caliber is a 3D fighter compared to Mortal Kombat and BlazBlue. As for Mortal Kombat, people claim that it's not as in depth of a game as say SF or Marvel.
