Game Consoles - Need some Advice!!
0
Greetings all,
I have been thinking of buying all the consoles each month starting next month (October). But I have some questions that hopefully you all can help me with.
1) With the Wii U coming out soon - is it worth it to wait, than to buy the normal Wii? (I'm thinking it might be like the PSP Vita - how a lot of people don't like it and still recommend the psp)
2) Speaking of PSP - Which one should I get or is better, Normal PSP or PSP 3000? (I'm planning to play western release games as well as some japanese only release games.)
Whoever can answer this questions - Thanks :)

1)It depends actually. The WiiU is backwards compatible with the Wii, but not with Gamecube games. If you don't care about that, then yeah, I say get a Wii U.
2)As for PSP's, it doesn't matter really. You can hack both(last I checked, which was a year ago and I had a 3000 so it might be different now) the only difference between the two is that one is slimmer than the other.

No idea about the PSP/Vita differences, but Wii U is not just an updated version of the old Wii, but a much more powerful new console, so definitely worth getting it over the old Wii.

Why "all consoles"?
Almost every game for X360 exist on Ps3 as well. Also buy an old Ps3 that way you do don't have to buy Ps2. X360 might be a little tricky since you can't play all games from Xbox.
Don't forget N64, SNES, NES, Gameboy, Play Station, Atari 2600/ 5200/ 7800, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast, CDI, and Gamecube. I know I have forgot a couple. Since you're buying "all consoles".

Wii was horrible so wii u will be equally mind numbing addictive to dance with.
Now psp vs vita is tough. The console on the vita is better then the last gen psp since they stop making new models and handheld in march. So get the 3003 or 3001. Yes all models are hackable but early 1001 to mid 2001 are hackable to perm flash so you can brick the fucker easily. Late 2001 to current are semi flashed hacked so once you restart the psp.. it reset to the ofw and not the cfw which if you need to return it.. they can't fuck with you warranty wise.
Now which is better. Psp is full hackable so all the games and apps are free vs better game play but no free iso or Homebrew without Vhbl hacking it and that only for a few brews and emu.. no psp or vita games. The library is low on the vita side and psp new is like 69$.. Go with the psp until they fully hack the firmware.

I think this guy has said it best about the PSP. As for the Wii/WiiU, I don't see much worth in them right now, save for Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii. And really, you could take an emulator for all that.

Go for the Wii instead of the Wii Nii. Although make sure it's the version that can play GameCube games. Although the Wii is good/decent, it's even better with GameCube compatibility.
I'd go for the PSP. The Vita will drop in price eventually, and there's really nothing worth getting on it that's released. Unless you really want Persona 4 with a few new features added in.

Get the Wii U if you don't care about backwards compatibility with the Gamecube. As some has said, it's already backwards compatible with the Wii so I would go with that. Of course, actual Wii U game releases might be kind of slow till fall next year. However, if you are only interested on playing Wii games, a Wii U would be the best choice in my opinion.
Edit: Oh yeah, forgot about the fact that newer Wii consoles lack GC compatibility. If you opt for a Wii, make sure the one you buy have GC compatibility. Otherwise, I would recommend the Wii U straight away, if price is not an issue of course.
As for PSP vs. Vita, I would go with the PSP for now solely on the fact that it already has a huge library of games and it's quite cheap now. The Vita might get a good amount of software later on, but the fact that it's not fully backward compatible with the PSP, it would be somewhat difficult to recommend it right now. It features great hardware, but not a load of good software as of now.

Remember kids, this is an advice thread, not a fucking console debate. At least try to judge things on their relative merits.
Whether or not you get a Wii U depends if you mainly want it for the existing Wii library. If yes, just pick up a Wii on the cheap, because the Wii U won't upscale old games; they will look just as horrible on big TVs.
But if you're interested in the inevitable HD Smash Bros, Zelda, Metroid etc, go for the Wii U. I'd wait until January for the cheaper 8gb model to drop in price. Unless you're big on download titles or party games, the hard drive is the only difference, and since the console has USB ports and an SD slot, you can infinitely bolster the available space.
The Vita arguably isn't worth the cost right now when you look at the PSP library and the emulation possibilities, and the PSP will only get more expensive now that they're winding down production. That said, there are some big games planned for Vita, plenty of unrealised potential as far as modding goes, and the price will be decent coming up to Christmas what with the sales figures and 3DS dominance.

Just need to clarify some few things.
1st when I said I'll buy all console I just meant the PS3,PSP,Wii and DS.
Now to the 2nd thing. I just bought the PSP 3000 since that's the only thing they have in stock. The PSP vita pretty much is in every shop and all the old psp is almost gone.
I've decided that I want the Wii U since not only can it play old Wii games but it is also a newer console so that's a plus. Got to wait for it to reduce price though.
While the ps3 - well there's not much to say apart from the fact I'm buying a 160 GB. Also the ps3 is most likely the next console I'll buy.
Lastly I still haven't decided whether I should get the 3DS or DS. Here's the thing I want to play not only western release games but also japanese games that didn't come out of the country. So since DS is region free thats good but the 3DS although better - It isn't region free anymore and that puts a dent to my plan.
The DS and 3DS might be my last to buy.

If you decide to go for the DS, the DS Lite is region free as well and definitely a better choice compared to the original DS. Of course, if there are any 3DS games you want, you'll still need to get that one as well.

I was just browsing and doing more reading on psp and ps vita. I've found that if you download most of your games on psn then you can play it on ps vita since it's backwards compatible with the psp - as long as its purchased/downloaded on psn.
As for Emulation I don't know much about it so I can't really say anything. But here's my question.
If I'm interested in playing games both release on western soil and games that never came out of japan Will psp still be good or vita?
I'm really interested in playing lots of japanese games like Visual Novels and such, so I really want to buy one that is good for this purpose. Just 2 example of many is the Ore no ImÅto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai and Amagami SS.

When you say all consoles can you specify if you mean this generation or not?
Also wait for the Wii U as the Wii has very few games worth playing
I would go with the PSP 1000 because my brother and cousins had 3000's and all of them broke theirs before my Gamecube got jealous and dropped on top of mine(sob story for another day)

The thing is that both the PSP and Vita are region free, except for DLCs of course.
The PSP would be a cheaper alternative and it has a much more expansive library of games compared to the vita with tons of console ports and very few vita exclusive games. So far the only thing helping Vita sales is Miku.
If you want to play visual novels, you can stick with a cheap PSP. A Vita should be considered if you want that slightly larger screen size.
While I have both, I have to say the Vita library is pretty sad, I've played less then 5 games since it's launch in Japan, Ragnarok Odyssey, Miku, Dream C club and UMVC3. Pretty sad.

I see - I guess I'll stick with my psp. With my excitement of Oculus Rift, I suppose I should start saving up some cash for it.
