Well I'm sure this topic is out there somewhere, but I didn't find it in a quick search, so oh well. Here it goes, again more than likely.
What are your favorite video game genres?
I mostly play RPGs. Usually action RPGs (whether Western or Japanese) like Tales and Star Ocean as well as tactical (turn-based) such as Fire Emblem and the FF: Tactics.
Also recently starting getting into shooters, both FPS and TPS. I don't have any particular series that I like when it comes to shooters, but I've played a lot of the 360 games (e.g. Halo series, Gears series, Bioshock, Mass Effect, The Orange Box...)
I used to play a lot of adventure and action-platforming games, but not really anymore. I hesitate to say that I grew out of them, but no matter how I look at it that is exactly what I did. I think the last action-platformer I played was Banjo-Tooie back in 2000.
As for genres I don't like I HATE sports games, racing games and real-time strategy. Not sure why I threw that out there, especially considering how popular those three are, but what can I say? XD

Action and Tactical RPGs as well (Tales, SO, VP, SRW series).
Old School Shoot 'em Ups (Gradius, Thunderforce 3).
Danmaku (Touhou).
Fighting Games (Tekken 5 DR and Soul Calibur 4 atm. Sometimes SF4)
Action Games (Dynasty Warriors)
Used to play FPS when I was younger (Quake 2, Half-Life, CS, I stopped after Day of Defeat).
Used to play RTS (Dune 2 and Dune 2000)
Used to play Racing Games (Gran Turismo, Ridge Racer)
Never liked Sports Games.

A few favorite genres and games:
Action Adventure- Legend of Zelda series, Shadow of the Colossus
Survival Horror- Resident Evil series, Silent Hill series
Stealth Action- Metal Gear series
Fighting- various, I suck but they're fun to play.
I'm also an RPG fan, unfortunately I don't play too many these days, I need some good RPG recommendations for PS3.
I usually pass on shooters, some are fun but the ones I truly enjoy probably fall under the action-adventure genre.
Though it's not really a genre, video games with cinematic themes are my favorite.

any kind of rpg mostly (j, s, action, strategy, etc.), and then fps (bioshock) or straight-up action games (dmc, bayonetta). cant stand sims or sports games (well... except soccer, its that guilty pleasure)

I pretty much play them all, but my favorite by far are western RPGs (Think Arcanum or Baldur's Gate).

I really used to love RPGs and I still do, but they're starting to grow a bit stale for me since I just don't have the time to put into them anymore. I'm starting to lean towards action based RPGs because I like moving around while making my attacks (although this can fail hardcore if the interface is bad).
I REALLY like fighting games especially Final Fantasy: Dissidia, Hentai Soul Calibur 4, and doujin fighters like Valkyrie Fight Tag and Vanguard Princess. Any fighting game that incorporates a good level of Yomi into the mix will get my attention :)
