Global/General Sniper Rifle Discussion

Yeah it was a shame. Say what you will about Modern Warfare 2, at least there are multiple play styles. Seems like everyone and their mum used the MP40 with Steady Aim in World at War. I got sick of it really fast.

My favorite sniper rifle is the M1903A4 Springfield.

Overall, the best would probably be the Barrett M82.

For video games, I like the ones with the higher stopping power. >w

i never got to play MW2 other then for a day.. it was fun though.

I kind of want to ask where you can find the games these rifle you guys are mentioning are in and post pics of said rifle. and which game is best for each rifle.. or at least which one you guys think is the best..

If we are going to talk about real-world rifles, I'd have to agree with ZKnoves that the Steyr IWS 2000 is the top. 'Nuff said.

I guess in general with video games I prefer power over accuracy when it comes to sniper/marksman rifles, which is contrary to my preference of accuracy over power with other types of guns.

That probably stems from me not being a good shot. I like using the Intervention w/ Stopping Power because I don't need the time necessary for me to aim for the head or neck. I can make difficult shots, but my problem is making difficult shots quickly. If I'm spotted and I take the time to aim the shot, I'm dead, end of story.

That's actually why I love using the Mosin-Nagant and Kar98 unscoped in World at War, because it was teaching me to be a bit more conservative and be quicker at placing my shots. Likewise, Bad Company 2 teaches you to be a better sniper all-around.



Uh, let's see. From what I've mentioned:

World at War: Mosin-Nagant or Kar98 unscoped, PTRS-41
Modern Warfare 2: Intervention, M21EBR (stealth sniping)
Bad Company 2: M95

Those are about the only multiplayer FPS I play regularly, at least that include sniper rifles. L4D doesn't count since the Hunting and Sniper Rifle operate fairly similar.

The Steyr IWS 2000 isn't exactly a rifle though... Not to mention the round is uses is much larger than a .50 cal that most snipers use.

I remember the rifle I love the most was the one you get from defeating Crying Wolf. I guess that's a Railgun though. >_

Meh. It maybe a smoothbore, but it is still considered an anti-material rifle. It is just up for interpretation.

but what sucks is that the distance the scope has feels so limited.

The M82A1 and M95 are over-rated rifles. Check out any gun that uses a .338 Lapua and you'll wonder why guns chambered for such a round are left out of games.

This man speaks truth, accuracy over power but games are silly like that.
For those who have played BF2 you'd remember how annoying someone was with an L96A1 capping you from the other side of wake island.

If memory serves, the AWP or "Boring Rifle" from Counter-Strike is chambered for .338 Lapua Magnum. The great thing about Lapua rounds is that they easily have one hit kill capacity and still have accuracy that trumps even the hand loaded 671 grain .50 Cal BMG rounds.

The AWP (Artic Warfare Police) is a sniper rifle used in CS. A non-military variation of the famous Accuracy International Artic Warfare rifle used by military all over the world.

Ingame, it is a one shot wonder and is significantly the most well known gun due to its loud muzzle fire which still can be heard in the farthest reaches of the biggest CS map. If you do survive a shot, you'd probably have less than half your health remaining, even with a full purchase of body armor.

In Modern Warfare: Black Ops game play trailer, the last gun shown is an AICS rifle. Probably the stock L96A1 or AWM: specifically the G22.

I think the CoD series has the best sniping, even if I hate the whole quick scoping/no scoping/ spinning headshot crap

Tbh if video makers had made the weapons sounds anything like the real thing we'd all be deaf from playing video games, or at least lost our ability to hear high frequencies.

Walther WA2000 from Hitman games



Most stylish and most powerful and most expensive weapon in most Hitman games.
.300 Winchester Magnum has that kick. And it's more compact in design than some other rifles.
