Let's not forget to mention that the AWP was the trickiest gun to master in CS 1.6 :/.CS 1.6; Fuck that.

Selvaria's fancy machine gun from Valkyria chronicles 1, no I'm not kidding, she can frickin snipe me with it across the map. No scoped and all, and plus its a fucking machine gun that doubles as a sniper gun and can kill you just cuz she is so good.

I don't think it was mentioned here yet:Walther from Hitman games

Most stylish and most powerful and most expensive weapon in most Hitman games.
.300 Winchester Magnum has that kick. And it's more compact in design than some other rifles.
Used it in COD:MW2, it was pretty good.
Though I use Barrett .50cal (haven unlocked WA2000 yet).

1. Best Game for Sniping: It's a cross between Operation Flashpoint/Dragon Rising and ARMAII. However, of the major mainstream games today, I prefer Battlefeild: Bad Company 2. I like like these games for the bullet drop. All of you who claim that it is realistic, shut the fuck up. If these games were realistic, nobody would snipe in them. It would be impossible. Rifle sway isn't a programed track, nor is it random. You feel your arm dip and sway with the gun based on your strength, breathing, and the environment. You compensate and adjust the tension in your arms, shoulders, and hands, even legs, and control your breathing (not holing your breath) to steady the rifle, or at least set a predictable movement. It would be impossible to incorporate this into a game. And, without great amounts of practice and adjustments, you cannot simply pick up a rifle and center your eye in the scope. I have yet to find a game where you have to adjust the position of your cheek to center the reticle in the scope. You have no way to focus your eyes on a particular point from your pupil to the target. There is no trigger anticipation, or the slow pulling to prevent it. Ghillie suits never blend in truly to the environment. Scopes don't reflect light. Wind. Inching on your goddam belly for an hour, eating nothing but bugs for days, and sometimes holding an awkward position for hours on end. No, video games should stop calling it the "sniper" and "recon" type, and start calling you what your actually playing, the Designated Marksman.
Haaah, sorry, had to rant.
2. Best Rifle Overall
The Remington 700. This rifle has stood the test of time (fuck you, 1968 is a long time ago to me), albeit a warless time, and is the go to gun for nearly all current u.s. military bolt-action snipers. Both the m24 SRS and m40 are built majorly using parts from this gun, and it remains an extremely popular hunting rifle throughout the states. It comes in a fuckshiton of different cartridges, ranging from .22 to .458 Mag. However, with new semi-auto rifles popping up now with increasingly better accuracy and range, this old girl may see her final curtain soon.
3. Favorite High Tech Rifle
It's a stand off between the DSR-1 in .338 Lapua, the SVD, and the variants of the m14. I know the latter two aren't exactly "high tech" and the latter not even strictly a sniper rifle, but those are my choices. Also, "high tech" is such a rough definition. A c96 looks high tech next to a Colt Army Revolver. I suppose if you want to get technical, the US Navy's new rail gun is pretty much the most advanced sniper, even if it does fire a projectile the size of a human arm.

you know when I said High tech rifles I meant Futuristic (Video Game) rifles.

M-98 Widow Sniper Rifle
M-29 Incisor Sniper Rifle

well I dont know if I said this before. The in fight game parts are too short. Majority of the game is spent outside of battle. I never got the Incisor, wish I knew how to get it though. The Rifle in this game are interesting, but could be better. In my opinion the Nano Rifle, and the Sniper Rifle From Red Faction: Guerrilla were better.
Red Faction: Guerilla:
Sniper Rifle
â– The sniper rifle for the Earth Defense Force, this weapon is a traditional sniper rifle capable of long range attacks, and even one shot kills. Useful for attacks against infantry units, the sniper rifle is not nearly as effective against buildings or vehicles, only causing minimal damage. The weapon's secondary ability is naturally an optical zoom, allowing players to see targets from far away
Nano Rifle
â– One of the few weapons that directly relate to the plot of Red Faction: Guerrilla, the Nano Rifle originates from the Nano Forge, which is found in one of the game's single-player missions. This weapon disintegrates whatever it hits, although it doesn't immediately disintegrate humans or vehicles (this takes multiple shots), and can be upgraded for better weapon capacity and power against vehicles. In multiplayer, the Nano Rifle is one of the rarer weapons.

The Weapons in Red Faction were interesting, some were just plain useless (for me). The Nano rifle was pretty cool. Whats great about the game is that there are vehicles and mechs (Walkers). I loved getting into that Giant mech and just smash things. It even had a Jet Pack. Too bad that the Nano Rifle didn't have a 12x scope. It would have been great if it did.

No love for the Farsight from Perfect Dark? It shot through walls and to make sure you hit it had x-ray mode and auto-tracking. There is no such thing as cover vs. this sniper rifle.

The Nano Rifle can wreck massive havoc. It Took out parts of a building, thus eliminating any cover there was. I had a lot of time on my hands, so I used the Nano Rifle as a clean up weapon and got rid of bodies and parts from buildings left over from a fight.
Though as I said I wish it had better range. I love Sniping people. But they always know where you shooting from if your too close.
There's another sniper rifle in COD:MW2 that I don't think you can get in multiplayer. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Anyone know what I'm talking about?I assume you are thinking of the Dragunov. Dragunov is in single player and Spec Ops, but not in multiplayer. However, it's Modern Warfare multiplayer stats are identical, and handles almost identically to the WA2000 in Modern Warfare 2. So for all intended purposes the Dragunov and WA2000 are the same.

Thanks Tsurayu
OT:
With Halo: Reach coming out, there will be new weapons (ok for a new game but weird for a prequal, wonder how they will work it into the story)
There is going to be a new Sniper Rifle in the game. It will be a snigle shot weapon I heard.
Also the Needler will have a rifle version. Would that be considered a Assault Rifle?
heres a link to some cool stuff from fan stuff for Reach* I found on the net.

also
I've seen this game in stores

Sniper: Ghost Warrior
Some Reviewers say to buy it and others dont, I was wondering if anyone here played it, I figured I would see if I could rent it from blockbusters.

-Fully automatic

As for my fave, I really dig old school bolt-action rifles, like MW2's Intervention. AWP is a beast too.

Scoped Kar98k - Call of Duty 2 - It's a beastly beast. Not much more can be said unless you've used it.
Scout - CS and CS:S - The Scout has a skill requirement (headshots anybody?), whereas the AWP is for total noobs. Not to mention it's far quieter and because of that is less likely to give off your position if you're sniping at a greater range.

From the reviews I watched.
The sniping in the game Sniper: Ghost Warrior
is good
but everything else is crap.
The visual isn't so good and the game is quite buggy.
And if Im renting that game or not is on hold for now.
But I have played something else. The cap-com game Lost Planet. To be honest the sniper rifle itself was pretty awesome. Like most games with a sniper rifle.

It felt like Red Faction: Guerrilla (maybe its due to being a 3rd person shooter?) with the shooting. But due to Cap-com games being arcade like. It doesnt have the same ammount of freedom. Also Like Red Faction: Guerrilla, Lost Plant has mechs. Which is fun itself. And they have detachable weapon on them.
The mechs in Lost Planet are cool, and to me they seem smiliar to the mechs in the Anime Blue Gender.
They even have the whole bug thing in common.
