Goddamn Bats - Annoying enemies in games
0
Well after being given a copy, I've been playing Morrowind for about four, fives hours now. Fun, immersive, pretty enough even if I played Oblivion before. However, one thing does blight the skies in this game, feckin', swarming CLIFFRACERS. They aren't difficult but goddamnit, they track you like homing missiles and pop out of nowhere, often in pairs, or even swarms.
So rant aside, this got me thinking about annoying enemies/beasties, I've had to face in games over the years. Not the difficult, painstaking enemies but those easy to defeat, but teeth grindingly annoying enemies. Said enemies that make your soul die a little inside everytime you hear them blight your presence with their stupid SKREEE, GARGH or EEEEH sounds. Enemies whose only purpose in life is to get in your way.
Looking back I have to say ANYTHING airbourne has always been the bane of my existance, especially anything bat related. I also not so fondly recall the slimes in FF10, Dekus and ReDeads in OoT, the constantly diving dogs from Silent Hill, and jesus christ, mountain lions from just about every platform/game I can think of too.
So, does anyone want to bring up any hidden hate for those constantly respawning, annoying, beasties?

its not so much the annoying airborn opponents as much as it is the fast low to ground enemies. I always hated wolfs on oblivion simply because i have to look down to fight them most of the time, this leaves me open to a much larger enemy charging me while im distracted by the wolf, this happens to me in several games such as metroid and Halo.

The VERY first thing I thought of when I saw the thread title was Cliffracers. It's my worst memory from Morrowind and I laughed when I saw (or heard?) the reference in Oblivion saying that the cliffracers had been driven out of Morrowind.
Unsigned beat me to Zubat. "Fuck you Zubat, I just want to get through this goddamn cave!"
For the same reason fast airborne enemies can be annoying, I hate most underwater enemies. Not only is your vision distance usually terrible, but an attack could come from any direction.

The goddamn clingy beetles and invisible rats in Twilight Princess. There are much worse enemies, but nothing beats them in being annoying.

Zubats and their confuse rays are mandatory.
On a less known note, those flying rocket firing guys in Wolfenstein are really extremely cheap.

Also, Goombas. Dying at the first Goomba in Level 1-1 in Super Mario Bros is not fun.

Showing my age here, but oh well.
Any air enemy in the Ninja Gaiden games (Famicom) usually can be a royal pain in the ass thanks to the poor programming/respawning glitches. Not quite as bad, but I think everyone (in my gaming age circle) has gotten overly mad at Medusa Heads flying around in Castlevania at some point or another.
Wrexsoul in FFVI is pretty obnoxious too if you fight him "the right way." I just use X-zone on his ass these days. I've done it the hard way before, a time consuming battle and blot on an otherwise epic game.
The cloud thing in Mario is Lakitu if I'm not mistaken?
Edit: @Nash, lol I think everyone has done that too. Even players of immense skill have slipped and hit the wrong button or something etc.

I know what you mean. Those eagles in the Original Ninja Gaidens made me hurl more than a few explicatives at the screen.

You have a Kefka avatar, thus you are cool in my books. I think I threw the actual controller a few times in Ninja Gaiden (as a kid of course)... now when I get mad I just turn the game off, so simple and yet as a kid I failed to do this.

Thank you I made it myself. Everyone seems to like the kefka avatar.

Kefka is one of the most terrifying, annoying, and badass villians of all time so he deffintly deserves some respect.
