Got myself a 360...now what
0
So recently I acquired an xbox 360 from my roommate who doesn't really play hers at all. It's in perfect condition and all that so their's no issues there but I have never owned one before and I have always wanted to...yet when I wander into a store and look at the games for it...I don't even know where to start. I know theirs a million games like halo, assassins creed, and all them that are raved about like hell but even then which one should I play cause some say you should skip the first or not or..?!?
So just give me some suggestions on what are the penultimate games for the 360. like THE games every owner should play.
I'm open with genres I can really play anything, I mean I prefer action/adventure/fighting games but anything at all is really cool with me.

While I do agree that Halo is vastly overrated, and has a huge cult, or let's not play nice all call them fanboy, following; but it is still a good series. It may be overshadowed by newer FPS games, but it holds true to it's roots and there is nothing wrong with a game series that does that to a certain degree. I'd go ahead and play them in order. Halo: Combat Evolved is pretty cheap on the Arcade, and even cheaper if you can manage to find it in stores still, same with Halo 2. If you are only interested in it for multiplayer purposes than I'd probably forego the entire series and go straight to Reach. Halo 3 will still be popular for a while, but the community will eventually disappear in favor of Reach.
Other than that it is like a requirement to own Mass Effect if you own a 360. I realize the PS3 is getting Mass Effect 2, but unless a deal can be struck between Microsoft and EA, then the original game will never be on the PS3 so it is silly to play the series on the PS3. Great story and great gameplay. What a space opera video game should be.
That's about it for exclusives as far as I'm concerned, but I'm not really fond of Gears, and that's the other major exclusive contender. The Fable games are some of the lamest Fantasy-esque RPGs I have ever seen. It would do much better to play Dragon Age or even Oblivion over Fable II. *shrugs*

What about Tales of Vesperia?

Seeing as how Mass Effect was already stated to be a must own, I'll suggest something from the XBox Live Arcade if you have access to broadband. I just recently got it myself, but Plants vs. Zombies is a pretty fun game. Its one of those addictive games that you just can't stop playing from Popcap. They made Bejeweled, Zuma, and a bunch of other games on P.C. that have been ported to everything from phones to DSi to the 360.

Get limbo on the live arcade. you could check out the arkedo series also, like Pixel, swap and runner. shadow complex is also a must.

The 360 is preferred for shooters, so the Halo series (which is not overrated) or MW2 are must haves. Seeing as how I also just bought a 360 only recently, I can't really recommend other games, but I do know that Mass Effect is great too.

Get Left 4 Dead and/or Left 4 Dead 2.
I'd also recommend getting both Modern Warfare games, as the first one is terrific and the second one is only good on consoles.

Halo is a good start, as are CoD4 and Modern Warfare 2. All very solid shooters with big online followings.
For fighting games in particular, Dead or Alive 4 is a good choice.
Mass Effect is a must-have. I'd also recommend Fallout 3.

I think halo is a good game to start with if you've never played a lot of games especialy shooting games. I used to hate shooting games & never played alot of games till I got halo. I think my own personal view of it is a bit over rated cause I'm always a bit dissapointed when the games finnished.
Mass Effect is an other good game which has quality & quantity which has left me to not enjoy shorter games as much though.
Time Shift is one of my favorate games. It's a shooter and you have the ability to control time. It's a bit old so probaly hard to find there is a new game called Singularity I don't think it's been out for long it's sort of the same but I haven't seen it in the shops for a while even though it's new just when I was thinking of buying it too.

So many ME recommendations, I play them on the PC, awesome title. Commander Shepard would be pleased.
