Casual Gamers?

The 1st next gen. console i got was the Wii.(my faggot ass 12 year old brother got it he's a hardcore gamer) anyway ive got a female cousin who is slightly younger than me and also owns a wii, but she's a casual gamer. so im over her house one day playing Twilight princess, she gets home and tells me to "quit playing that lame ass game" and she grabs one of her games, i think it was called super carnival games, or some shit like that, my mouth drops wide open. "you think thats better than legend of Zelda" she nodes her head "listen Janea this shit right here (twilight princess) is a multi-million dollar game, it takes years to make this shit. this the type of game you get in line to buy the 1st day it comes out, where you end up crying in the end. that shit (super carnival games) is usually made in a month and is made on a budget equivalent to that of a 12 year olds allowance"
I save the game and walk out(its her wii so...) anyway i may have been a bit dramatic and exagurated abit but she pissed me off.(i was in the middle of a boss fight) So how do you guys feel about casual gamers?

I don't see anything wrong with casual gaming. I mean, why would we?
Only thing that pisses me off are the companies that rather publish another shit game for the casuals instead of something good.

thats because casual "gamers" far out number serious gamers by a whole lot.Every company now has the impression you can create a shit game and sell of lots of cash for minimum effort then a good game.

I think that's the industry's fault though. Sure, you can blame casuals for buying them, but I think games of higher quality would also be bought if they were available.

making games are expensive nowadays unlike the ps1-ps2 era where every small company made games like it was hotcakes and good ones eventually emerged among them.
Companies will not take the risk on higher quality games since it costs them more, and its even more worse if its a unique idea of a game.
There are many good games conceived over the decade just that they never make it past the publishers since they ultimately control what is to be in the game and they never see the light of day again.

Although casual gaming is alright I am quite agitated in the fact that they're truly only fun if you have friends to play with. Other wise it's pretty easy to get bored making your Mario stomp on Link's head in SSBB. Sure I can waste about 1-2 hours playing it alone but the same is true with crossword puzzles.
This is already known as the EA formula: as long as it sells keep making them. My example for this would be the NBA live series, everybody knows that each release is the same game only with better graphics than the last and possibly with more players in the rosters. The SIMS, of course because we can't seem to have enough of these can we? The SIMS 2 already had a mountain pile of expansion packs for it which puzzles everybody why The SIMS 3 even exists; it's not even that far away from SIMS 2 graphically so how is this different really? Did they make this just because they were sure it would be bought by the casuals?
So yes I agree with you. Because of how successful the casual gaming market is, there's a lot of redundant releases whose budgets could have been used for hardcore games or gaming innovations.
edit: and oh I don't particularly think that Casual Gaming is killing the wii like how its stated in the vote choices rather it's keeping it alive... which I am not sure if that's a good thing.

My kid brother is a sucker for those games, and I can't help but get the feeling the whole boatloads-of-expansion deal is cashing in on the success, big time.

I dun really think that the time and money it takes to make a game is what makes it good, and Twilight Princess wasn't nearly as good as Ocarina of Time anyway, but yea.
Anyway, I personally find most causal games to be boring, it's seldom more than mind-numbing button-pressing, and I need story and awesomeness to appreciate games. So. IMO, it's a waste of money. But hey, w/e makes them happy, as long as they dun force me to play them.
Lol, sounds to me like you're just mad cuz u didn't get to finish Zelda that day.

Lol, I'm not sure how it's fun really. I tried playing it and after I made a few buildings I had to make my character wake up, eat breakfast, take a bath, slap himself in the face, wear clothes grahhhhhh. Was I really playing the SIMS or normal boring life?

thats because most casual games are suppose to last less than 5-10 minutes per session, like those working people play a short session before going to work etc. They also have to be simple enough to reach out to a broad age group like 7-70.

Contrary to what you might think you do need time and money to make a good game. The main purpose to make games is not to fulfill your life long dream of making a certain game, rather it is to make money.

wait what makes a casual gamer?
cuz back in the day i was able to beat most of my rpgs playing marathons with more than necessary time needed to complete the game. now im lucky if i even get half way in the story to figure out the plot before i just stop and move on to the next game
but something in me said to 'slow down'
playing 2-3hrs a day compared to playing every waking minute of free time i have
im not sure if its old age or life kicking in, but im scared

"Casual games" are the leading cause of pussification in gamers.
^Scientific fact
You should know better than that, even blaming shit isn't just black and white. At first it was the fault of the industry for making the games, and now it's the fault of both people and the creators for perpetuating these shit filled time wasters.
Higher quality games aren't available? Bullshit, the people just don't know what high quality is (low standards are low).

I sure hope we have another Video Game Crash soon. Shit was cash after the last one.

I was thinking more along the line of... you know, if the same games that we claim have low quality were made better, casual gamers sure wouldn't mind. So it's not like they run any risk of financial failure if they make a game shine instead of publishing the next crap game.
Not that we don't have any HQ games in general, now that would be a bullshit thing to say.

^What EA's, Activision's, or any other company's bottom line humping CEOs would respond to that with.

I look at it this way: If we assume people bought game X regardless of how the quality of said game is, then there are also people who would buy it if it was available for a lower price or if it were made with higher quality (you learn that in Economics, first semester lol).
So, I think it would be economically advantageous to improve the quality to make more people buy the game, which results in a higher profit if the production costs don't exceed the income, obviously.
Seeing as how many people stay the fuck away from shit games, there is still some money in there in my opinion.
