How much gameplay is too much?
0
I thought I might make this a thread since I bet this has happened to someone at some point with some game.
When you play a game too much for too long you start to get ...weird. Like saying lines from the game without meaning to. Or doing things that replicate the game without thinking about it.
I've been playing Mortal Kombat(9) for like a week straight. Sparing the details of how I got enraged, I grabbed my dogs squeaky toy, ripped out the squeaker, threw the toy on the floor and held the squeaker in the air.
Yeah, I'm serious.
Also, when I was playing Bulletstorm a lot I started kicking everything.
Anyone else have stories?

Physically. I will start to get sever headaches and nausea.
Mentally, I never had mental problems. Usually vivid dreams about the games.

I had nightmares after I played Minecraft for like 24 hours in one go, was seeing blocks everywhere. Made me feel sick from lack of sleep.
Also, I dun think it's really a problem as long as you do not try to replicate the ripping out spines and whatnot from MK.

When your eyes start to bleed and your fingers fall off.
Then and only then is when you have played too much.

Or if your eyes fall out and your fingers bleed.
Other than occasional quotes from video games (and only then when I'm with people who know what I am referencing), nothing really imitated.

When you skip meals, showers, and sleep.
I hardly come across this since I take breaks every 1 - 2 hours or so.

Once, I played Super Robot Wars for 16 hours straight. Nothing seems wrong at first, but when I was sleeping, my mom told me that I shouted Chesto, Choutenji, and Ike.

My hands were incredibly crapped after my first night on the Gears of War 3 beta with my GB team. I think we played for about 7-8 hours straight..
I ate my dinner like around 12am lol..
Even today, I was on BlazBlue CS for about 3-4 hours training and playing one of my sparring partners. That felt good~

Once had an 8 hour marathon of Starcraft II.
Even after I turned off the game, I could hear the SCVs voices in my head...

It gets bad when I start ignoring phone calls, texts, forget to eat and start getting headaches. Although I haven't played that hard in a while.

One time I played assassins creed 2 for most of the day and then I had a really freaky nightmare. It was completely black, no visual at all, then I heard all these voices speaking. They were Italian accents and speaking the same psuedo italian you here in assassins creed 2, it was a really long dream and I woke up in a cold sweat for some reason. Dunno why but the dream made me feel really bad.

Don't know if this counts, but I just noticed after posting in this thread earlier that whenever I win at anything (games, sports, an argument, etc), I sing the FF victory song. And at rare times, when I or someone else finds something that was thought lost, I sing the original Zelda item song.
So actions don't stick to me, but the music in games I play for a long time does.

My first and last Playstation marathon was way back when I was in college. I played PS2 games when my parents went to the sea. I played early in the morning until dawn. I played different games non-stop and I was able to accomplish a lot of different feats.
But now, I don't have the luxury to play games that long anymore because I'm busy w/ work and all other stuff, but I wont attempt to do another marathon because I feel to old for it anymore. My head did not hurt nor did I experienced any signs of getting sick during the marathon.
