Has anyone else ever noticed how fucking intricate and complex most of the history and lore is in the Elder Scrolls games gets? Seriously, that shit gets deep. I just spent the last few hours reading up on some of the history of the Nerevarine, and damn that shit gets crazy.

Have you ever noticed anything worthwhile and leaving lasting expression generally has a backstory? Just the Elder Scrolls is a vast underscoring of this. If you think Elder Scrolls went deep start going into Warhammer, LotR, Wheel of time, and practically every other successful fantasy novel and rpg.

I would the.dark souls lore was more intricate in comparison to the elder scrolls.
All the lore was available via a bookstore.
Dark Souls ypu had discover it and piece things together on your own. It was as intricate as you had made it.

It's only intricate and complex as how you deem it to be, let's say you live in another universe and there's a game based on our universe complete with all our history and lore it would seem complicated from the standpoint of an outsider. Most of skyrim's history was derived from the in-game books and fans just documented it on the wikia, lore is essential to any good fantasy game.
Video games have always been a beautiful form of story telling, it gives the gamer a sense of fulfillment after finishing a story as if he lived it out. The lore of the game gives you the lay of the land, it gives you a sense of connection to the world.
