That's a worthy cause, right there :D With PS2 there's a few ways to accomplish playing burnt games, including disc swapping and what not. but from what I've read, the most stable solution is chipping. You can attempt to do it yourself (not for unsteady hands) or pay someone to do it. Some AV equipment repair places (places that repair tvs and such) will do it. Same for computer stores and independent video game stores. Call around.
Here's one : Modchips.ca
I'll be honest though, i've never modded a PS2, I'm not sure what benefits it unlocks, or how you run software. Google is your best friend when it comes to things like this. you want to read as much documentation as possible.

I wouldn't attemp chips if you're not too techy. Swap Magic will do just fine!
Buy the version that comes with a special DVD (and the CD is also included, in case you want to play burnt ps1 games) and the little slide
IF you have the fat/old PS2.
If you have the slim, you'll have to get this one right here.
In either case, the installation and use is veeeeery very simple, and won't damage your console at all, so rest assured.
There's one thing you should keep in mind though when burning your games. You can't just burn them on to any DVD, because the quality of the DVD directly affects the speed at which the PS2 can read information. Meaning, if the dvd isn't good quality, you can experience problems that range from longer load times to mid-game lag. Personally, I've found SONYs DVDs to be the best, but they can be a bit on the expensive side (you can save a bit of money by buying towers). Some people also like TDKs but my PS2 can't read those for whattever reason.
Anyways if you want more help feel free to PM me.
ps: I've used Swap Magic for 4+ years and had no problem to date.

Also make sure you DON'T buy DVD+. Only DVD-.
DVD+ is slow as hell. Prepare to wait for ages if you want to play a game burnt on those.
