Tanks seem to be ignoring headshots, indeed. Especially the sniper rifle is completely useless in a tank fight - in a tank fight I gave him about ten accurate headshots from it and I had the least damage done to it. Sniper rifle in a tank fight = take out the pistols since all you can do is to slow him down with rapid fire. While some other time I've shreddered the tank in a matter of seconds with one guy distracting him and myself with two others pumping some shotgun shells into his back. Not sure if his arms and legs are differently calculated hitboxes, though. I'm always going for his chest area.



Tank runs slightly faster than even healthy humans. You haven't noticed yet? Though, shots slow a tank down, which is obvious. My guess would be something like a 0.14 time frame after being hit by a bullet of any kind, numbers of shots don't seem to stack up the timer, it only refreshes, and a full hit from a shotgun seems to cause the same slow as a single shot from a pistol, which makes sense since all the shotgun shells are hitting him at the same time. Only excepion seems to be a minigun, which slows the tank down a whole damn lot. But basically, the ammunation and reloading time of a single survivor isn't sufficient to keep up the distance to the tank. But if you have three to four people shooting him it's possible to simply outrun him in a straight line.

If you want to outrun the tank, keep shooting it and never light it on fire. Fire makes it run faster.

@nacho: I did think Tanks ran faster than healthy humans, except sometimes he catches up to me and sometimes he doesn't... now I know that rapid rate fire slows the Tank down. (But the chances of the Tank actually showing up in the field of fire of a minigun is low from what I've experienced.) As for the Tank damage, I usually go for the chest region and back like you, and occasionally I'd hit the shoulders/arms. I remember backpedaling away from a Tank and firing point-blank in its face with a full barrel of shells from the auto-shotgun - it survived that and proceeded to whack me over 5 meters away.

@Tsujoi: lighting a Tank on fire makes it run faster?? Whoa, that's a new one, but thanks for the tidbit.

Minor Update

The important:

Introduced fatigue to the melee attack in versus mode. You will see a HUD display when your melee swing is cooling down.

Boomer vomit will now pass through common infected.


Less yelling "BULLSHIT" as the boomer, more yelling "OH SHIT" as the survivors.

I hope that's the same "case" as the one which led me to completing Death Toll about five times on Expert without getting that damn thing unlocked.

@nacho's video: oh shit, that's a huge difference in speed when lit on fire in the campaign mode... I'll keep that in mind if I'm going to molotov a Tank.

I don't think the Jesus room is worth it. There are better places to hold out without trying to attempt something that might or might not work.

Leastwise, there are plenty of other ways to get achievements. I was able to get many of my achievements through playing easy in single player, and as of now I have 34 achievements. (Was so close to getting the no-vomited achievement...) I even got Untouchables through that method. I'm still missing six versus achievements and the other last 12 achievements that are the hardest to get, like the 53936 zombie one, the expert ones, the campaign level ones, crowned, man vs. tank, and others.

I hate it when I'm playing L4D, and there's always the idiot that tries to rambo off and fucks up the rest of the chapter, or the idiots that press the switches before everyone's ready. Any player frustrations people wanna share? And what about # achievements earned so far?

48, actually 49, achievements.

I'm missing "Zombie Genocidest" and "Red Mist" - and the "complete every campaign on expert" one, which is bull. After three times of beating Death Toll on Expert I still didn't get the count for it, then, out of frustration, I even tried to cheat my way through it on single player, did everything correctly two times but I still didn't get it. I hate Steam. Ranting ends now.



That's actually one of the biggest challenges and the only reason why I play random Expert from time to time. Nothing better than being the only one left alive and rushing it to the resurrection closet or save room. One of my favourite ways of playing Expert Campaign recently is just two or three-manning it while killing off the bots. Grab a friend and try two-manning the fourth Death Toll chapter, that's fun.

Anyway, what's your machine now like, g-money? Did you manage to get a decent frame rate and stuff?

No, I'm still running L4D off my laptop. My current solution is to free up more space on my hard drive, which has 24GBs free out of 250. It's like the only reason why I don't have the expert achievements because I'd die in 5 minutes on Expert with my shitty frame rate. I even notice a big difference when playing online. I have full health, and so does everyone else, yet I'm running slower than the others - wtf? (Might be lag, but I think it's both lag and my shitty frame rate.) Advanced is farthest I can do without dying every chapter, and anything else on expert I get my ass kicked.

I just got "Do not Disturb" 34th achievement tonight. I'm pretty happy about that.

Lessee, I need Zombie Genocidist (53595 kills) and Outbreak.

So, basically I just grind No Mercy and Dead Harvest in single player, then play a hell of a lot of versus and hope I get vomited on by a boomer with Outbreak, then vomit on someone else. >.>

Yeah, it's a mod. I haven't looked at the details on how to do this, but I've read that it takes a lot of work to get it working right.

How did you manage to play enough Versus to get every Infected achievement, yet you're missing Outbreak? You have to be the unluckiest L4D player ever. That's, like, an instant achievement. Whenever I've seen a Boomer vomit on someone in the first week of L4D, almost every time at least one guy got his Outbreak. I've unlocked mine the first time a Boomer got me, too. My suggestion: More cuddling with your teammates.



Highly unlikely for your hardware lag to be caused by slow HD access rates, though. While I can only guess which onboard graphics chip you're using it's still a bit suspicious that you can't run L4D even on lowest settings. While I last time concluded that it can only be your graphics chip causing problems, another possible cause which came to my mind would be simple hardware overheating. You might want to invest some time into monitoring your temperatures - here's exactly what you'd need. If you're noticing temperatures going nuts while playing L4D, you might give your notebook a good cleaning. It could be something as simple as dust blocking your air ventilation, although the possibility is pretty low.



Too much work. I've got my Man vs. Tank when we were shooting down the tank with all four people.

I also did my "All 4 Dead" by killing 2 Survivors while ignoring two of the survivors which were pounced from the moment I charged in.

And my "Lamb 2 Slaughter" got unlocked when I pounced an AFK survivor which was left behind but never got out of the safe room. God I hate Steam achievements.
