Looking for some DS games
0
So, I'm going on a trip in a couple of weeks and I'm looking to buy a couple of DS games that'll help pass the hours during the travel time. I already picked up Aliens: Infestation, but that's better played in short spans rather than for a few hours straight. I'm looking mostly at a few RPGs but don't have much experience with them, other than Pokemon Soul Silver , Red, Blue, etc. I was looking at Dragon Quest IX as I heard that there's a good deal of character customization, which is always a major selling point to me. But before I commit to that game, I wanna know what you guys think of it or if you know of any other good (possibly better) RPGs that also allow you to customize your character.

I personally I hated Dragon Quest 9... Combat was slower than I anticipated.... bad start for a new comer.
I suggest pick up Dragon quest 5, very enjoyable - Great story/character/Fast combat.
Advance Wars: Dual Strike is Brilliant, Love it!!! I should get Days of ruin soon... if I can find my damn DS.

Try the Etrian Odyssey series. They're first person dungeon crawlers. Also get SMT: Strange Journey.

Final Fantasy IV would be a good choice. There's no character customization, but the rest of the game completely kicks ass. It will also last you for a while. Final Fantasy III would also be a good choice if you're looking for a classic RPG. You can customize your party's job, but the story and character development is non-existent and the gameplay may be too archaic for people used to the new games. I still love it thought.

Dragon Quest V would be a good pick if you don't mind paying over $35 for it. I also been meaning to buy that game, but the prices are ridiculous everywhere.

DS RPG, eh?
Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. Set aside any bias you may have for Mario and the franchise itself. The fact is, it's a kickass game.

I recommend Super Robot Wars Original Generations Saga: Endless Frontier.
This is Exceed but pretty much the same content

Game is amazing, the story alone makes it a keeper.
This game is customization heavy, so you can play the game the way you like it.
And then theres also front mission:

My cousin has that game and said something similar. However, while I don't hate them, I have absolutely no emotional connection to either Mario or Luigi. And not giving a rat's ass as to what happens to the main characters doesn't exactly bode well for an RPG, if you ask me.
I checked out DQ5 and it looks pretty good. The story seems interesting from what I've read about it.

Buddy...you're talking to a bona fide Mario hater here. If I said I enjoyed, then there must be some appeal to the game itself. ;)

EXCEED didn't come out in America. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
I suggest Devil Survivor, its a tactics RPG with multiple endings.
Castelvania: Order of Ecclesia is also a pretty sweet game, a bit hard, but fun nonetheless.
If you're super into customization, get Disgaea DS...SO MANY THINGS TO DO, and Infinite Space, which is an RPG with lots of customization...IN SPACE.

Try Tactics Ogre...I played the Knight of Lodis in my DS emulator in PC and looking for its direct sequel and prequel.. you know the problems of starting a new game without knowing whether it has a sequel or prequel. Though its turn based strategy, I'll think you'll like it for the character customizations, and multiple story endings based on desicions very early in the game.
btw, I had to read walkthroughs for unlocking all customisations, you'll understand when you play the game..

Buy any "Harvest Moon" game in existence. Next thing you know, a month will have passed. But you won't care, no you won't because you'll have a golden piece of lumber. Joke aside, harvest moon games eat up A LOT of time without you realizing it. That and most of the DS ones and the GBA one are pretty cheap right now. Granted they might seem boring, due to the lack of action... except those goddamn moles... coming onto my farm, looking all mole like... where was I? Ah that's right, may seem boring but are highly addictive.

Radiant Historia would be a good one a time-traveling rpg. No wrong with getting any harvest moon/rune factory games.

I recommend Nostalgia (2009), Final Fantasy IV if you've never played it, Disgaea DS, I'll second SMT: Strange Journey. I'm gonna rebuy and play that today. Golden Sun: Dark Dawn is a must. Playing with the classes is fun as hell and it has good after-story content. Gonna rebuy that today as well. xD
Tl;dr?
Nostalgia
FFIV
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey

After reading this thread, I went out and bought Rune Factory 3 with feelings of skepticism. I didn't particularly enjoy any Harvest Moon and usually stray away from sim games in general. Oh. My. God. Best seventeen dollars I've EVER spent. E-V-E-R!
Between getting the girls to fall for you, fighting monsters and settling an age old conflict..well, I barely have time to farm. I'm officially supporting this series.

I'm looking at Rune Factory 3, and it seems like a game that'll kill some time, but I'll keep looking before I make any decision. One of my friends also just recommended Sands of Destruction. Only thing is, I never heard of it until recently so I don't know much about it. Did anyone get a chance to play it and see if it's any good?

FF4, Chrono Trigger, The World Ends With You, anddd Super Robot Taisen OG SagaI still have my old copy of Chrono Trigger (along with my SNES) lying around somewhere, so I don't see the need to buy it again for the ds. I also already played The World Ends With You, but didn't really get to far into it.
