I was planning on playing this..
Just a trial to test, in a while it's going F2P anyway.
i was wondering is there anyone here who plays this, if so, would you recommend it?

Many of the less popular MMO's seems to be taking the trend of the free to play but you can buy subscription for exp/loot/money bonus and so on, along with these cash shops that allow you to buy some bit better then usual stuff.
I did play this game to about level 30 or so. It was decent at best but no major differences when compared to like WoW. Theme / graphical differences are just about the only ones. Though it has better storyline missions if you ask me.
I'd probably recommend it if you really enjoy the LotR fantasy, though this has pretty horrid PvP (Might have changed it, I played it about 2 years ago, so they might have changed a lot of stuff). Also the grinding as it is in roughly every MMO. At least the game gives you an option to skip the tutorial levels (1-4) and head straight to the second area to move on.
/ot. Pirates of the Burning Sea is also going free to play this fall. Anyone else checking it out? ot/

I'd recommend trying it. I'm still playing f2p and so far up to level 20 has been fine. It's a cookie cutter MMO and while I hate when people compare everything to WoW, that's just what this game reminds me of from the quests, crafting, collecting, to everything else. It seems to be mostly PvE and I haven't tried the PvP since I haven't heard anything good about it.
There are a couple f2p restrictions. I don't think f2p can trade money, post auctions, or a couple other things but I haven't really noticed them. I also hear that quests for f2p really thin out once you get mid-to-high 20s but I haven't reached that point. They'll do the usually thing where they try to get you to buy things from the cash shop, but none of it is absolutely necessary.
I'm still impressed, it's not bad for f2p.

I've been playing for about a year now. i must say, i like it much better than WoW. most of the major problems/annoyances from wow aren't on lotrol. things like gold spammers screwing the economy, rude children, obnoxious chat trolls. i often see people just passing by stop to help if someone is out numbered by mobs too. rarely see node ninjas, in fact, if you are fighting a mob near a node, most people will just keep going and leave it for you. it's not hard to earn the points to unlock stuff on F2P.
the only down side i've noticed is the pvp, but i'm not a big fan of pvp in rpgs.
