Microsoft to Pachter on E3 - "Don't expect a focus on games"

Microsoft is said to have told Webush analyst Michael Pachter that their E3 will mostly focus on multimedia like the previous two years.
Well, I know Microsoft didn't win E3. Seriously, besides Halo 4 I honestly don't think there is anything else that I'll get for my Xbox besides for previous released games and working on my backlog. I'm glad to see that Nintendo is taking the opposite approach. As for Sony, they have always been good abput having a balance of exclusives and third parties.
What are your thoughts on Microsoft going another year on multimedia approach? Do you think the next Xbox will take the same approach (spoiler I do.)?

XBOX has no games...(I could not help myself.)

Meh, not one console has any exclusives that I actually care about/have interest in. All of the games I'm looking forward to the most this year (and the next) are all cross-platform.

Still, Microsoft should start thinking about getting exclusives made, even if it was in-house, because that helps drive console sales. Maybe not by much, but it still helps.

One should keep in mind with services like Netflix, Hulu Plus, HBO GO and the internet browsers in the PS3 and Wii. Many more people are starting to use these services more and more, so it isn't a surprise that companies are starting to capitalize on the idea.
Besides, the Wii "started" motion gaming as a whole, the Kinect and Move are the next steps and finally we might see a leap in video games besides processing power and graphics. But due to the fact that people complain about improving games as a whole, they just want to improve the same thing over and over again.

Exactly, that is why Microsoft said what they said because they want to be the dominating force in the living room for families. Sony will push out some interesting and unique stuff next-gen no doubt (Home wasn't really, but still kinda cool. Foldin@Home was awesome, and the music applications on the PS3 are also great).
As for the Wii statement, I definitely foresee the Wii U forcing Sony and Microsoft to think outside the box in terms of how their next-gen console will be. Kinect 2.0 should hopefully have all the stuff Microsoft promised back in E3 2010 (individual finger tracking, sign language tracking, multilingual voice-tracking, etc.). As for Sony, don't know what they may do, and I know inb4Nintendoripoff comments. Sony does improve on such concepts fairly significantly, so I am excited either way for what Sony could be pushing for unique controller design. Though I still expect a modified version of the DualShock (biometric data maybe?) to be the main controller.

One of my big rules in gaming is don't listen to anything patcher says. multimedia is the only thing going for xbox they don't have many good exclusive, which for me exclusives is a deciding factor for what I deem a console worth buying. And except for halo which I'll admit is good atleast the first game, can't say about the other halos. I can't vouch for the quality for any other exclusive (opinion).
with the losses xbox has been having I believe that Microsoft is gonna cut there gaming devision soon. So I think xbox has a few years left if it keeps up the loss, that is unless Microsoft insists on being stubborn. So as far as their plans go they're gonna continue with this approach stubbornly until they end up like I said. But who can really say.

Pachter may spout stuff that the average teenager may already know, and sure he says things that are asinine to the average gamer, (3DS should be priced higher) but he isn't dumb. He has a job to do such things, and while they may seem insane, it's the shareholders, not him that are to blame. He is just trying to tell them what companies will make a profit and increase everyone's revenue. I may disagree with Pachter at times, but I respect him for being able to say such things and handle the backlash.
As for Microsoft cutting their gaming division, ha, not happening. The 360 might not be doing amazing right now, but there is no lying that it has made them a ton of money, if anything, they should cut their cellular phone departments. Everywhere I go I have yet to meet a person with a Microsoft-made phone.

They may not be as popular as the iphone at the moment, but they're gaining momentum. Between the new batches of Windows and Droid phones, I've been seeing fewer iphones popping up lately.

Well if his job is to predict what makes a profit then I am most certainly not impressed by his skills. I get it people make mistakes no ones perfect, but all the predictions he's made are wrong 99% of the time and quite frankly it's getting annoying. Although I must say I agree higher price for the 3DS is worth it. It was certainly worth every damn penny I've paid for it on launch day. I'll have to disagree with you on them never shutting down their gaming division. Microsoft is a huge company that sells a Lot of different products. And for them to keep a division open that makes them lose 6 billion dollars is crazy. No matter how much money it made them if it doesn't start making money again it'll have to be cut. And No matter how bad the backlash Is microsoft will not go out of business if they shut it down. Cause they have a lot of money. And wow I did not know they had cellphones. I knew Sony had one just by a passing glance in gameinformer, that xperia or something. Big fail Microsoft. Big fail.

Microsoft doesn't make phones. Instead they make operating systems for phones. They've been doing this for a while now, with Blackberry phones, and have been at it looong before Apple threw their hat in the ring. Now, Microsoft has the Windows phones, which are more slanted toward commercial use like the iphone and aforementioned Droid phones.

What people don't realize about Nintendo is that the whole "motion-sensing" technology thing was just a cheap to make gimmick they marketed as successful in order to trick other companies into wasting funds copying Nintendo.

So no new Microsoft console then...Eh.That is for next year most likely. Maybe Microsoft will have a change of plans and have to hint at their next console, maybe show a tech demo only showcasing the graphics improvement. Though if Sony starts rolling out information on the PS4 during Tokyo Game Show, I think Microsoft will have to start announcing stuff before E3. Wouldn't want to get left behind.

I hope they bring back the terrible actors. I can use a few laughs.
Personally the only thing about e3 I do care about is the Wii-u.

Oh god please no, just let Konami do all the work, because theirs was actually funny. Microsoft was embarassing deja vu for the third year. While on the note of terrible actors, if Ubisoft hires Mr. Caffeine again I swear to christ...
As for what there is to be hyped for at E3, the Wii U I think everyone can agree is the most hyped announcement (re-announcement) there. I am excited to see Sony's because I hope they finally put out some gameplay footage of The Last Guardian and The Last of Us. Also interested in seeing what new IPs could be coming from them, especially from David Cage with his fantastic Kara demo. God I hope his game is similar to that, the theme would be awesome to explore.
