My growing disinterest in Assassin's Creed
0
The unfortunate thing about the Assassin's Creed franchise is that the longer it goes on, the more it takes away from me caring about it. AC1 and 2 were great because Abstergo and the Assassins were still mysteries. What did Abstergo want? How do the Pieces of Eden factor in? Even the incredibly annoying puzzles that unlocked the various "Truths" around the game had snippets of audio and documentation linking Abstergo to various world-changing events in history that made them look menacing and mysterious. I'm a big fan of using fiction to fill in the holes in history, so this was fantastic.
But now, with Revelations out and AC3 on its way, the game has taken a turn for the mundane. We know what Abstergo wants. We know what the Pieces of Eden actually are, and we know what the Assassins' ultimate goals are. There's no more conspiracy. Everything is out in the open. Now it's just good guys vs. bad guys. It's a little disappointing.

I dunno, I'm still hoping to see how 21/12/2012 fits into the game...

Agreed, they had a pretty neat plot and possible good ending. But now they plan on making an infinite amount of sequels if possible. It was okay with the first two games, but then the "sequels" to AC2 come out and just "ruin it", then we get the American Revolution for some reason. They could have done something good with the franchise and story, then they just go to bashing Catholicism and making the story far more awkward than what it was supposed to be. Along with just having Desmond for no good reason.
The whole conspiracy storyline just doesn't help the game anymore.

Well every game have a certain limit to how many sequel they can make.. like the god of war series.. god of war 1 and 2 is great.. but after a few sequel... people just stop caring...

I love AC, but I lost interest in AC Revelations, no longer cared about the story, and never finished the game. I hope the next game is an improvement since it is a fresh start from Ezio and we get to see if Ubisoft can improve the game while relying on certain aspects from the previous games that their fans love.

I can't say anything about the story considering I've only played bloodline but the gameplay was so freaking great I played til I scratched it up beyond recognition. Might dust off my ps3 and buy ac3.

I just want it to finally get somewhere with Desmond's time. I hated Ezio to begin with, so I'm glad to see him dead, but the entire series just needs to get on with it! and stop stalling the actual plot.

They gave the Assassins a very finite goal; that is, the entire series has been leading up to one ultimate climax. The Assassins exist to fulfill this goal, and Abstergo exists (currently) to fulfill their own goal. Once the series reaches this particular climax, and Abstergo is ultimately defeated, this arc of Assassin's Creed has to come to a close. There can be no side games revolving around this same conflict of Abstergo needing the Apples of Eden and the Assassins trying to stop them, because Desmond (or whomever) has already stopped them. It spoils its own plot.
If the AC series wants to make another game after Desmond stops Abstergo, then the devs would need to reboot the series entirely with a brand new protagonist and a brand new set of conspiracies. Possibly in the future. I can't vouch for that. If they go with the obvious franchise lengthening device and say that Abstergo was just a small part of a bigger organization, then I might just drop the series entirely.

Meh, we should update this thread when AC3 comes out then see how the plot turns, and if it does, let's just hope Connor won't have three extensions like Ezio did, i loved playing as him, but im still waiting on my damn ninja's!

I can no longer stand (Assasins creed) I will not Call it "AC" for short because another game in my heart has claimed that title since 1997. but anywho,
Assasins creed's story turn bland ever since Assasins creed brotherhood. Now they are pumping out a new game almost every year like Call of duty. All they do is throw in maybe 1 or 2 new weapons a FEW new moves, swap out the NPC skins for new ones and bam! what do you get? a new assasins creed. Assasins creed 3 is its last chance to save itself. being that its in a completely new era and setting. But I'm not expecting much. as most video games now a days are being beat to death with a baseball bat anyway. online passes, "shortcuts" for online shooters, expensive ass DLC. etc

What killed me on Revelations was that online pass. I waited a little bit for the price to go down on it so I could save a little cash, only to find out it's another ten bucks to play online because I got it used? That's not cool, Ubisoft.

Repetitive and just generally didn't enjoy it. That and all I cared about that time was CoD4 That's just my opinion though so you should definitely still go for it.

I pretty much agree. Sequel burnout, big time. A game a year is just way too much for me to care nowadays when I'm keeping up with other stuff. I still haven't gotten to Revelations and I've only heard mediocre things about it... by the time I would even get around to it, as I originally guessed... a new one will already be out. To be honest AC3 is looking pretty promising, but you can bet it'll become a trilogy within a trilogy once again I'm sure.
So yeah. Completely loved AC2 and Brotherhood, but they just keep milking it away and my interest grows thinner. I don't care what franchise it is anymore, a new installment once a year is way too much.

Yeah, things got quite a bit stale over Brotherhood and Revelations. But the actual third part seems to make things interesting again. Although I wonder if they don't go overboard at some parts. At least, I don't have much hope that the sea battles will be good.
However, I really hate the modern day plot. I really wish they would done away with that shit. It's boring and the characters range from merely uninteresting to completely awful. Desmond actually manages to be both at the same time.
