My top ten: Survival Horror games
0
Hi mates, I'm going to share my top ten scariest games of all time.

poor storyline and progression yet a fresh approach to the horror genre

Oh SHODAN, what could we do without you

would you mind?

A complete overhaul on the original, this version definitely brought RE to a whole new level of horror and suspense and redefined the meaning of a remake. Aside from the gorgeous graphics and darker surroundings, the cutscenes are fully rendered in CG along with a much better script writing. Veterans definitely will notice the total change in atmosphere and the way its played. Ammo is much scarce this time around and putting the zombies down won't be enough cause unless you incinerate the body or decapitate their heads, they would soon change into a far more dangerous crimson heads which run faster and hurt Chris or Jill harder. This without a doubt one of capcom's most beloved horror title ever and it is # 4 in my list.

Along with #1 and #2, this is the game that I don't play alone at night. The abandoned Mine Phillip took refuge on alone is already frightening. Adding the creatures surrounding him, disturbing notes of people previously occupying the mine and a guy named Red who's been driven insane by cabin fever; You've got yourself a horror game deemed fit for fans of psychological thriller and suspense.
There are scenes where you'll have the urge to jump off your seat due to the perfect delivery of the background music being triggered on a certain moment. The presentation of the abandoned mine is also worth noted. Penumbra: Overture simply win me over and it stands tall at #3.

Penumbra fan art

Very cute twins, a lost village, old houses, sacred rituals, hundreds of ghouls and trapped souls roaming around and one mean vintage camera; what more can you ask? Fatal Frame 2 represent a classic Japanese horror flick focusing more on a haunting atmosphere as oppose to the visceral approach of other video games like RE. The only way to defeat the wandering ghost is your old camera obscura and for it to be most effective is by getting as close to the ghost as possible which is downright creepy. Fatal Frame 2 is a must have to your gaming collection and it stays put at #2

and finally...

What more can I say? There is no doubt this game will go down in history as one of the scariest video game ever made.

If this does not include any of the Fatal Frame series, you have failed in playing one of the wicked survival horror games

Just post them all at once, so we can actually start a discussion. :D

I'm going to share my top ten scariest games of all time. I will reveal them one at a time every 2-3 weeks ... this is to keep this topic up and goin' until Halloween. This thread is now lame, and you should be ashamed for making it lame.
If you've ever said to yourself, "I can't wait till that game comes out", then you should understand what kind of douchebaggery it is to make us wait (not that I give a shit about your top 10 BUT IT'S DOUCHEBAGGERY!).

I have edited my post. It was kind of stupid considering this isn't a countdown to no.1.
I think most of us agree on #1 but who am I trying to be a douche. What do you think of my top ten?

Wow I'm suprised clock tower is on the list because that game horrified me too even though it's pixelated and such. The thought of not being able to defend yourself against a mutated kid... Oh lord.
Silent hill one and two and maybe even four should be mentioned but three was a let down for me. Hopefuly the new silent hill they premiered at e3 will be just like one and two in levels o f story and horror.
I cannot wait to play fatal frame. It's always so expensive wherever I go but I'm hearing it's worth it.

<3 Agree. Silent hill 1 is the first game that actually scared me. That dark alley scene in the beginning will always be etched into my mind.

Origins was just as awesome as the first 3, it brought back the exploration of the town, got rid of the shitty battle system they implemented in the 4th (hell, you can even fight with your fist in that one), and the puzzles? Being able to switch between the "light" and "dark" world by looking in the mirrors? Whoever came up with that was a fucking genius.
Not to mention it's a prequel to the first and gives us some nice insight on some of the characters before Harry Mason pays them a visit.

It is some kind of risky moves that being implemented by Konami ... and sadly, Origin have potential to fulfill fans request ...
if only Climax focused/working on the project a little longer ...
and i know you still remember when i said that some fans including me hope that Origin is not canon because of some mistake that ruin image of some character whose appear in both SH0 and SH1 ..
but you know ? Origin need to learn new tricks .. because they just use the same elements/tricks like first 3 of SH series ... except the mirror concept[/h]
oh well,
SH0 is awesome in its own way ... i guess that's true too ..

I want to thank you guys for having interest in my thread. I really appreciate all of it. Now that my top is revealed, I would like to post some of my honorable mentions; most of them are damn scary but ultimately didn't make the list. Here is a sample.

These games are good on their own standards. I love the 60 fps of FF1 and also moments were ghouls suddenly appear out of the blue. Miku is the reason I love FF1, she is so feminine and her caring personality is a plus. The Camera Obscura's exorcism power were at it's full potential within her hands due to her ancestry's strong spiritual sense. FF3 on the other hand, using different characters on different occasions was a nice feature adding flare to it's already twisted storyline and the return of Camera Obscura's spirit charge made taking mugs on those bastards easily. Both Fatal Frames are great but none of them compare to what Crimson Butterfly delivered to fans, cute twins, great storyline, and a lot darker tone than its predecessor and sequel respectively and this is the game that made my onions at my fridge weep. I shit my pants playing Crimson Butterfly first time around, hell, even my friends screamed loud seeing the lady ghoul at the beginning.
Fatal Frame & Fatal Frame III: the tormented.
