Namco Tales shenanigans
1
Namco Bandai, or more specifically Namco Tales studio, has done it again. They are now releasing an updated (and likely with much more content) version of Tales of Graces for the PS3 now as well as having confirmed Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 3 and an exclusive mothership title for the PS3.
I can't figure out what their business plan is. It makes no sense. It's one thing to release a version of Tales of Vesperia on the 360 in an attempt to revitalize interest in the 360 in Japan, only to turn around and release an updated port on the PS3. But to alienate the Wii audience for a game that unlike Vesperia, which worked properly, ended up being at best buggy and at worst unplayable.
Alienating the 360 audience is one thing, and understandable from a business prospective. However, alienating the Wii audience, which is strong in Japan, makes no sense. Namco Bandai has become "ballsy" at best and "douchebags" at worst. I mean I understand the basic principle that it's all for the pursuit of more earnings, but do they not see the potential of their actions coming back and biting them hard in the ass someday?

Well that is just it. This is not really the time for Namco to be ballsy. They are hurting badly, at least the Tales division. They price of making a JRPG is skyrocketing to epic proportions and sales are stagnating. Price goes up and sales go down seems to be the general theme of JRPGs now. Even Square Enix has mentioned that Final Fantasy isn't in great shape either.

Seems pretty silly to me. Like you aforementioned, I don't see the point of making porting it to another system, especially if didn't sell all that well to begin with. Exceptional sells to me; is sell that don't include the target fans, but rather how units sold total. In any case, seems like you would lose cash bringing it another system and more cash if it's only in one area (I.E: No International sells). Well, whatever, just my option since I'm not sure how the whole gaming market works, but Namco, like others will do what they want to.

Well, I haven't bought a single copy of tales of yet, cuz it felt suspicious in first place to me.
But to the fans of tales series. Namco is successful in one area tho, in swindling the consumers and making them pay 100$ to buy the beta version and then complete version total.
What's next, $200 in year 2015 for a single game? Forget it i'm still playing ogrebattle 64.

As someone who used to like Namco, im kinda hoping that this tactic to suck money from gamers will really hurt their bottom line. I was especially disgusted when they did that for Vesperia since they had enough balls to actually leave space for the extra characters in the xbox version that they were gonna put in later for the ps3.
