Hyrule history translated
The Legend of Zelda art book we told you about last week has now made it to Japan, and according to one fan translation it reveals the official series timeline for the first time.
Previously Nintendo has kept the Zelda timeline secret so we're not sure if this is a definitive timeline or simply one interpretation of it, but here goes all the same.
Main Timeline
1. Skyward Sword
2. Minish Cap
3. Four Swords.
4. Ocarina Of Time
Split 1: Link defeats Ganon — childhood branch
a) Majora's Mask
b) Twilight Princess
c) Four Swords Adventures
Split 2: Link defeats Ganon — adult branch
a) Wind Waker
b) Phantom Hourglass
c) Spirit Tracks
Split 3: Link fails in Ocarina Of Time
a) A Link To The Past
b) Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons
c) Link's Awakening
d) The Legend of Zelda
e) Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
Does that sound right to you?
Just in case anyone cares.

That artbook, is it even published by Nintendo? If not, this is kind of not official by default. But doesn't matter, it does make this timeline a bit more substantiated than others even if it is not official.
As for whether or not I like it, it sounds good until a third split? Not sure why a third split is necessary. "If Link fails?" That doesn't really translate well, even with A Link to the Past. The two original split timelines that Spliterists came up with makes much more sense, and helps fit Oracle of Ages and Seasons into perspective.

So, um, according to this, is it safe to say that the "original" storyline of The Legend of Zelda is when Link is defeated by Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time? I mean, it would make sense in A Link to the Past with the Dark World and all being the Ocarina's world transformed by the Triforce, but still...weird. I mean, the fabled Hero of Time being the only Link defeated is kind of surprising. That is, if this is real after all :/

Wait, there's actually a timeline? I always figured Nintendo was pulling stuff out of their asses every time a new game comes out. Looking at that convoluted timeline, I'm starting to guess I was right.

Wow...they actually have a timeline. Who knew? Bit crazy of a timeline, but oh well can always just ignore timelines if one wants to.

Not really sure how I feel about this one :/ I've always had my own timeline in my head, and I thin I'll just stick with that.

FAKKU Ass Master
It's all starting to make sense now.
Funny how Skyward sword was just released not too long ago either, being to first in the timeline.

Split 3: Link fails in Ocarina Of Time
What? I didn't even think this was a possibility.
Yeah me neither. Somewhere on the net, someone though of the possibility of Link failing to defeat Ganondorf when he disappears from the future to get the lens of truth. After he alters the future by getting the lens, he returns to a different timeline to the one before getting the lens. The timeline Link abandoned (before getting the lens) is the one where Ganondorf wins since Link dissapears. But the new timeline created (after getting the lens) are the ones that cover the two scenarios (split 1 and split 2).
I don't know, that's speculation though. Maybe Link could have gotten stuck on the Water Temple for all we know. I mean, that place was a bitch sometimes.
