Old School FPS vibe lookout
0
I, being the cheapskate I am and having the low specs on my ancient laptop, have never bought a game which hurt my very thin wallet. I tend to hover around the discount section of any game store and tend to go for the 2/3 games in one (perferably the original + sequal(s).
Now i have been addicted to the FPS of the very old school, Im talking Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake. and I seem to have finished most of them and wondering if their are any more modern (but old enough to be found cheaply) games which carry the same vibe. I honesty cant care for graphics and co-op/vs mode means nothing to me.
Right now I have just started Deus Ex, which is an awesome game btw, but would like to know if there are any, not so new, but not old, FPS´s out there. I like a story, but thats what books are for - gameplay comes first.
I would be very grateful for any suggestions

"No one lives forever", a really awesome and refreshing fps mixing humour and spy features. It has a sequel but it failed hard.
"Serious sam" Well it's always good to have an anti stress game.

Nah, we all constantly aim to make you second guess yourself about it being a troll or bad reading.

counter strike is still pretty fun to play with bots.
The original F.E.A.R is good
Medal of honor allied assault should be able to run on your com

Agreed on SS2, Renegade, HL1 and Wolf 3D, but seriously: Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. Game is badass.

Thanks for all the ideas - most of them sound epic and there are more than a few that I will try out.
I only have a PC and a Wii (but there are no real FPS on Wii, except for maybe Metrios(spelling?) and the price is normally through the roof), but feel free to mention any PS1/2/3 or Xbox(360) or Wii games, in case those who are lucky enough to have these consoles, can get them.
My laptop is also that ancient that any console emulators dont work that well on it... but thanks for the tip.
thanks again :) - its so nice to have such a helpful forum!

Hmmm...
How about something more sophisticated? Ever played System Shock (1)? Running it used to be a hassle, but you can find portable version nowadays that's just click-and-play.
EDIT: Here you go

@JGFan - Fuck U! (...and have a nice day). :D
SS1 is a classic, even if you "video gamer kids" (who never played Space Invader in the shady corner of pub in an honest arcade machine, since you were born with a PS1 controller in your hand), can't appreciate it.
