So, looks like Sony lost the "battle", What are your exceptions and predictions for this.
Well, I'm already "Clean" with my PS3 (Jailbreaks are spreading like the plague here)
So, I'll just remain clean for this one and never JB my PS3.

PS3s are too expensive to risk jailbreaking at this point, if you ask me.
Though I expect firmware patches to fix this will be coming pretty soon.

it is extremely hard to solve this hack.
I remember reading a more detailed article about the hack and with the root key and random code generator's equation (which sony only put one equation that applied to all games).
Basically, if they want to fix this hack, they will be invaliding the current released games.
Let me see if I can find the article again.
however, I won't hack it unless there is some extremely attractive features that the hack would allow, just like the full cpu speed that the hack allowed for psp (which was released a long time before sony lifted the limiter)

Or a full compatibility with PS2 games again... man that's tempting..

This would be such a win!

Point emphasized, and also seconded.

I'm not sure if that would be possible, since iirc, wasn't part of the PS2 compatibility dependent on the disc drive itself? Sure they new ones also read that the PS2 game you put in is, in fact a PS2 game, but that's the limit to how it can handle the PS2 discs?

Never gonna happen because it's a hardware issue.

The two consoles have vastly different architecture. PS3 has a bunch of identical CPUs and is a powerhouse. The PS2 had dedicated, special chips and co-processors for various tasks. Even on PC all those have to be "emulated", and until recently when PCs became very powerful was beyond what is possible.
...I wonder is PS2 *emulation* (not native support) will ever be possible on the PS3.
