Possible Call of Duty monthly fee.

I shit you not folks, the boys at Activision are trying to see if they can add a subscription service to go along with Call of Duty's multiplayer for some bonus material.
Activision Blizzard Inc. plans to launch an online service called Call of Duty Elite this fall that will work with the next major edition of the game, "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3," and future installments of the hyper-realistic combat-simulation game. In a move industry executives describe as a first, Activision plans to charge a monthly subscription fee for the service, which will provide extra content that isn't offered on game discs sold in stores, including downloadable map packs that give players new "Call of Duty" levels to play.

and hence, the population creates pirated software/cracks (or even probably try to make a 'free' private server) to simulate the subscription and add the added perks and maps..
hell, only peeps who 'need' additional help in trying to pawn other peeps would spend.. (probably those who cant fight it out without the perks)
then again, it is a good way to get money from rich gamers

Not a big deal. Not even the almighty Activision can get away with a required service. This will be for people who choose to pay an extra service fee. These people will probably get access to exclusive DLC, or will get DLC before the standard users do and it might be free for these "Elite" users while everyone else will still have to pay 1200MSP/$15 for it.
This isn't going to be some horrible, detrimental, blow to the gaming industry that everyone wants to make it out to be. Whether or not it is successful or not is yet to be seen, but harmful? No.

"Hyper-realistic combat-simulation game"? Bullshit. There's nothing realistic about soldiers dual-wielding .44 magnums and chucking grenades across the span of an entire battlefield. Nothing in that game is even close to being "realistic".

lol, for subscription there better be like 200 maps to play on with new maps every month. Fps tend to stagnate on same ol map same ol map. Heck I dont play fps that much anymore, in fact, I stopped.
No way I can warrant paying a subscription for same ol 20 maps.
Bungie day was a blast cuz there was so many new maps to play on. X_x
Well it would be funny to see them crash and burn but if its so successful it'll be just uh lame?

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3," and future installments of the hyper-realistic combat-simulation game.I laughed so hard that I think my diaphragm ruptured. I can't wait to play some realistic FPS, like being able to be hit by a .50 in the chest and walking it off, or jumping off a high cliff and only getting some red Jell-O splattered in my face instead of breaking my legs.
On topic: not paying. Not worth it.

lol...watch because if this goes through then they will only sell half of what try hard arch did for black ops.

It's like they are saying:
Yeah other games have everything that we don't, not a problem, we can add all of that useless shizz which you dont really need but, since our *realistic FPS* is so godlike by default, we are gonna charge you monthly for this.
From Activision with love.
I never was into CoD to begin with, i will just either wait and see what happens to BF3 or just start playing some different genre which supports online.
P.S. i would laugh my ass off if this idea somehow works but PS3 will still be getting late updates like with Black Ops map packs

I guess this is the installment of the game where players get to live out their life as a soldier engineer where they can realistically fix their cars and equipment for hours. And then when an enemy comes, you can't shoot him immediately cause your character will face lawsuits unless you get fired on first. I stopped playing their FPS and I doubt making me pay for my medical bills while i wait for my legs to grow back will entice me into playing again.

So far what ive read is that most of the stuff that will be featured if you pay the monthly fee will be game stats, though im probably not going to pay for this service, I already pay an Xbox live fee, I dont want to add another one on top of it.

DLC that's available at launch pisses me off. Should be available for everyone since it's on disk. The only thing more annoying than Activision doing this is that plenty of people will buy it, and other devs will replicate.
I liked VIP (launch DLC aside) since it was a one-time fee or came free with a new copy of Bad Company 2.

Except, I would assume that the troops sent in, if UN troops at all, would be peace-makers, and not peace-keepers.

That's what I'm implying will happen to CoD soon they'll charge us for camouflage or different character models. Hell they could eventually charge us for multiplayer.
