Quite a few older games, but a good one in recent memory would have to be Shattered Horizon.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpD6pkA83k8
Yes, that's all in engine footage.
its just a glorified tech demo. one gun and like 3 maps yeehaw how fun.
Was portal a glorified tech demo?
It had one gun and 3 hours of gameplay. Yeehaw, how fun.
Also, it's a well supported game. Look into what's changed since you last looked.
Also, I honestly think that 1 gun is all an FPS needs. Competitive CS only has you using 7 guns in any meaningful amount, and of them only 3 are guns you'd use if given the choice of any gun in the game, and of those 3 two are effectively the same gun tactically.

Ico - it really isn't popular or well known in America only informed gamer types really know about it but chances are they still haven't even played it. It's beautiful and makes gaming an art form again yet other titles got to America bigger and faster.
Silent Hill 4 The Room - Thanks to Silent hill 2 and 3 being the big players in the franchise 4 was overlooked and a lot of people forget it even is number four in the series. Not the best but truly another awesome game and a great addition to the series.

Really? I find Shattered Horizons to be lots of fun. But I guess we disagree on this point.

Ah, and they should listen to you?
I'm curious why the game is not good for you.

And hell yes on Stretch Panic. Fun game, but odd as hell... we totally need a new one with motion controls =P
Hmm...that sounds like a good idea, but let just hope they make changes on the next one (still trying to understand the complexity)
One some may reconize is Astro Boy: Omega Factor; in short best out of all the games I've played in a while, entertaining, fun & hard, and a story that will touch you. In comparison to the PS2 game & movie-tie game, Omega Factor just blows them away.
To add into the Resident Evil catalog Code Veronica I've enjoyed very much (more than RE 5, damn 2nd player AI) intriguing as you try to take down the trasgender brother of the AShford family & Antartica?! wow!.

Another SNES gem (can you see the bias here? lol) is U.N. Squadron. It's a side scrolling shooter much like Gradius or R-Type but instead of being a sci-fi space shooter like most games of that time it features planes that featured more current day technology. There are three pilots to choose from each with their own advantages and I think 9 planes (it's been years since I've played it). You start with the same plane regardless of pilot and can spend earned cash on new more powerful planes and special, single use, weapons. However you can't use all of the special weapons on the cheaper planes, and some of the higher ranked planes also have different firing patterns for your Vulcan cannon. There was one plane that looked kinda like a WWII plane that fired straight out and down at a 45 degree angle which is great for starting out even if it can only equip about half of the special weapons.
Unlike most shootemups of the time you can choose which mission you want to take next, however if an enemy unit got too close to your base you would do an emergency mission... sadly I can't remember what that means anymore haha.
Of course the SNES has plenty of other great side scrolling shooters to choose from as well like Gradius III, Super R-Type, Super Nova and so on.

I really haven't seen a lot of mentioning for the Lufia games in a long time... Especially the one that was released for the GBC (not the one for GBA), but of course, Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals for SNES was a superb game for its time. Too bad it really didn't garner a lot of attention, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong places?

Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines
The first game to use the source engine, and though it shows in that it was a bit glitchy on release (oh who am I kidding it was HORRIBLY glitchy) the story and potential it had made it a cult hit. There is a group of modders out there that are STILL releasing update patches. Putting in things that were included in the build, left over from alpha and beta builds, but never used in the actual game.
Also, I would say Tron 2.0 game for the PC was awesome as well.

I actually think a lot of games end up staying low profile even though they are great games. And lot of great games don't even last long and die out.
shame.

Most games that have been released by Atlus, they're awesome at bringing unknown Japanese games to the U.S such as the Persona series. My recent gem that I'm still playing ever since I picked up on the day of release is Demon's Souls. It's probably not a gem no more now that it have build quite a fan base.

The only problem is that he doesn't have the budget for it, and no publisher seems interested in supplying him with the money to do it. I keeping my fingers crossed though, that we might get to see Megaman, Roll, and Gramps again, and my personal favorites Tron, Tiesle and Bon Bonne

Beyond Good and Evil I'd say is a hidden gem. Shadowed by the release of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, it really slipped under the radar, but it's a fantastic game. Thankfully, there is a sequel in the works, but more people need to play the first game. HOLY SHIT, they are FINALLY gonna make a sequel to Beyond good and evil? SWEET!
BTW you can buy the game here:

...for 10$. (no DRM)

This game is based on the Area 88 manga/anime franchise. It it was titled UN Squadron I shudder to think what other "localizations" were committed.

Tokuro Fujiwara? I read about him ages ago in looking up another gem he made, Tomba!, and I know he worked on all the Megaman games and has been with Capcom for years.

Total Annihilation by Cavedog.
Great piece from 97 and pretty much shaped what today's RTS's are now.
Hell, it's still great game to play, may it be on the Spring 3D engine or the original engine. I spent innumerable hours on this game when I was younger..
Only thing that made the game from the epic to eternal levels of epics was the soundtrack of the game.
