White Knight Chronicles.
I haven't played it, but my friends keep boasting about it. From what they told me, it's also online, too. So that's a plus, I guess.

I don't have a PS3, but...
If you're looking for a challenge, Demon's Soul is supposed to be good. It's something of an action RPG. It's supposed to be quite difficult.
If you're into retro games, 3d Dot Game Heroes looks pretty good. It's a Zelda-style game with a great sense of humor.
I dunno much about it, but I heard Valkyria Chronicles was pretty good. It's a JRPG.

Go for Agarest Senki, you won't regret it.
On a more serious not, get Valkyria Chronicles, or if you canread Japanese get Tales of Vesperia or Ar Tonelico 3.

Hasn't ToV had a localization? I know I own the English version on the 360 at least.

Namco never made one for the PS3

What about Disgaea 3? That one was awesome, and the series is usually pretty easy to pick up for someone new to the series. Also, it has zombie penguins that explode when you throw them, and your characters can get to level 9999.

Ah so basically I got to master some Japanese and import a 100 dollar game from Japan for a good anime like RPG nowadays huh? Haha. Alright thanks guys. I'm going to look for Valkyria Chronicles today.
I'll rep the rest of you who provided some titles when I get the chance. IF any more suggestions keep em coming. MY ps3 is backwards compatitable so it can play ps2 games too. I don't mind old JRPG titles either just going to be a bitch to find them.

If you don't mind PS1 era JRPG's, the original Valkyrie Profile was incredible. Don't get the sequel though, it's just...bad. There's also a remake on some portable system, though I forget which one.

final fantasy 13 very linear, but decent story for the most part, also if you havnt played it. download final fantasy 7 on PSN its a PS1 classisc but its the best in the series and the game is pure epic. also final fantasy versus 13, whenever it comes out

I'm having trouble tracking down Valkyria Chronicles. Seems Ebgames in Canada has discontinued the sale of the game so I have to look around to buy it. Are there any of the "Tales of" games on ps3 that have been translated? Heard they are fun.

Like I said, the only Tales series for the PS3 is only Tales of Vesperia, and it's not localized for the PS3. The newest one would be Tales of Graces but like the former, this too won't get localized if there's no change in Namco's plan.
for Valkyria Chronicles, Try buying them from other Online sites, like Play-Asia.

Valkyria Chronicles, definitely.
I really liked Eternal Sonata. Beautiful music, beautiful world, and good story.
Final Fantasy XIII is also a good choice.

I didn't like the 10 hour grind through FF13 to get to do some fun stuff. I tried the demo for Valkyrie Chronicles. Pretty fun, I'm going to try to find it locally before I go online and get it for like 10-20 dollars more on play-asia.

Valkyria Chronicles great game and it is pretty cheap I got a brand new copy for like $15 Really? I can't find a copy. And if I buy it second hand from a classified, minimum is like 35 dollars.

Amazon.com has it for $28, new. I'd suggest picking it up, unless you want to keep trying to find it where you live.
Honestly, Valkyria Chronicles is the only one I could recommend. Haven't played any others besides Disgaea 3, which might not be that great unless you really get into the battle system and stuff...

just for the lulz.
The story progresses through various points plotted on a map. By visiting each point, the player has to battle the creatures, complete a quest, visit a town or go through a conversation to advance through the storyline and open up more points.
Fighting plays out like a strategic RPG where each character has his/her own set of moves, but by moving each character to an appropriate square, you can chain characters together and pull off combos. After each round of combat, each character will regenerate AP and accumulate SP points. When enough SP points have been accumulated, characters can unleash special attacks.
The game includes dating sim elements through its "Soul Breed" system in which the player creates a new character by pursuing a relationship with a female character[5] as the game's storyline extends for five generations, each one having a different male protagonist. For the first four generations the protagonist marries one among three of his female companions and their son becomes the protagonist of the following generation who inherits stats and abilities from his parents.
