Rock Band 2 Drum Freestyle Mode Question.

This topic/subject may be in the wrong section, based that it is a question/request but it is video game related, so i posted it here. If i do not articulate this question entirely well, then please feel free to ask me for a more descriptive question.
The Reason I'm Asking this
On Rock Band 2, there is the Freestyle mode for the drums, where you are able to just pound away on the drums. Now I just have the PS3 set, not the extra cymbals that will come with it. If I wanted to get the extra cymbals, would they work on the PS2 version of rock band? Basically i mean if i get those cymbal attachments to go with it, will i be able to use them as real cymbals and such, and the PS2 will work with them. Once again if I was being vague I can reiterate.
